Rotten Tomatoes awards expert Jacqueline Coley forecast winners for the 81st Golden Globe Awards, held January 7, 2024, and separately named who she thought should win. Her forecast got the drama-film winner right: Oppenheimer. It picked Barbie for musical or comedy, but the official winner was Poor Things.
What Rotten Tomatoes predicted—and what “should win” meant
Coley’s article was a pre-ceremony forecast, not an official prediction or results page. It considered awards-season buzz, voters’ tastes and historical leanings, along with Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and Audience Scores. As the article put it: “Our Awards expert Jacqueline Coley, considers everything from industry buzz and the tastes and historical leanings of the HFPA to our Tomatometer and Audience Scores to read the tea leaves and place her bets.”
For each category, Coley distinguished her predicted winner from her choice of who should win. Those are different judgments: a “should win” pick expresses a preference, not the forecast. The table below reports the forecasts and official winners for the two film categories where the supplied sources establish both.
Two film forecasts, one correct pick
| Category | Rotten Tomatoes forecast | Official winner | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motion Picture — Drama | Oppenheimer | Oppenheimer | Match |
| Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy | Barbie | Poor Things | Miss |
The official Golden Globes results confirm Oppenheimer won motion picture drama and Poor Things won motion picture musical or comedy. These two examples show both a hit and a miss; they do not establish an overall prediction accuracy rate.

These are the “will win” forecasts, not Coley’s separate “should win” choices. The contemporaneous official 81st Golden Globes winners tracker provides category and nominee context.

This is a historical look at the predictions made for the January 7, 2024 ceremony. Rotten Tomatoes’ page now displays an update marker of September 25, 2024, while its search listing gives January 3, 2024 as the original publication date. A stale footer on the page refers to a 2023 ceremony; that does not change the article’s focus on the 2024 awards.
Rotten Tomatoes’ article reported that the voting body numbered 300. That is a figure reported by the article, not an independently verified count of the eventual 2024 voting body.
