In a statement to People, O’Donnell said: “I have compassion for those struggling with addiction – Chelsea was born into addiction and it has been a painful journey for her and her four young children. We continue to love and support her through these horrible times. Prayers welcomed.” The Independent also reproduced the post and statement in its report on the case.
What the Wisconsin court action changed
WTAQ reported that Chelsea O’Donnell was terminated from Marinette County’s drug treatment court program. A court order entered October 22, 2025, listed her status as “Revoked – Sentenced to Prison (State Probation).” The report said the one-year prison term had originally been stayed when she was placed on probation and admitted to the program in March 2025.

Before termination, court-recorded violations had led to sanctions that included community service, an apology letter, an essay and other measures, according to WTAQ’s account of the court documents. WTAQ reported that she had been convicted of drug possession and obstruction in Marinette County.
A prison sentence and physical custody are different facts
The reported change to a prison sentence does not, by itself, establish when someone entered prison custody. WTAQ said that Wisconsin Department of Corrections records available to it on Wednesday for its October 30, 2025 report did not list Chelsea as in custody. The records instead showed “active community supervision” and a Marinette address.
That is a contemporaneous snapshot, not confirmation of her status now. The cited reporting does not establish whether she is in custody on October 8, 2026.

The Independent reported that Chelsea, identified as Rosie O’Donnell’s adopted daughter, was 28 at the time and had several arrests in 2024 related to drug offenses and other allegations. It described charges arising in September, October and November 2024, and reported that the case led to a six-year probation sentence in January 2025 before the later revocation.
