Celebrity Net Worth lists Roger Waters’s net worth at $310 million, but that is a third-party estimate—not a figure Waters has publicly confirmed or a verified accounting of his assets and debts. The reported $400 million Pink Floyd catalog deal is a separate, band-level transaction and should not be read as Waters’s personal payout.
What is Roger Waters’s net worth?
The most frequently cited figure in the sources reviewed is Celebrity Net Worth’s $310 million estimate. The site says its net-worth figures are estimates unless otherwise noted, and it does not provide a verified balance sheet or a calculation that establishes Waters’s precise current wealth. Celebrity Net Worth’s Roger Waters listing is therefore best understood as an estimate, not a confirmed financial disclosure.

Net worth means assets minus liabilities. It is different from income earned over a period, tour gross before expenses and contractual splits, or the price paid in a transaction involving several rights holders. The available sources do not establish Waters’s current assets, liabilities, or a independently verified present-day total.
Did Roger Waters receive $400 million from the Pink Floyd sale?
No source cited here says Waters personally received $400 million. In October 2024, The Guardian and Music Business Worldwide reported that Pink Floyd agreed to sell recorded-music and name-and-likeness rights to Sony for approximately $400 million. That was a reported value for a band-level deal, not an individual payment to Waters. The reports said songwriting and publishing rights were excluded and remained with the individual writers. They do not disclose Waters’s allocation, taxes, or net proceeds.
#1 Best Overall
- Approximately $400 million: reported price for the rights transaction involving Pink Floyd.
- Not established: Waters’s personal share or the amount he may have retained after taxes and other costs.
See The Guardian’s report and Music Business Worldwide’s report for the transaction coverage.
How did Waters build his wealth?
Waters’s long career as a songwriter, recording artist, performer, and touring musician provides context for why estimates place him among wealthy rock musicians, but the sources available here do not assign current dollar values to those income streams or establish his royalty rates.

- WATERS ROGER AMUSED TO DEATH
Pink Floyd’s official band history describes Waters as the group’s de facto leader around the Dark Side of the Moon era, the driving force behind the largely autobiographical The Wall, and the sole credited writer of The Final Cut. After Waters left the band, an agreement allowed him to continue performing songs he had worked on with Pink Floyd as well as new solo material, while David Gilmour and Nick Mason continued recording and performing as Pink Floyd.
Tour receipts are not take-home earnings
A tour can generate substantial revenue without that gross becoming an artist’s personal income. A 2017 CBS Sunday Morning press release said Waters’s 2013 The Wall tour “took in nearly a half billion dollars.” That is a reported tour gross; the release does not specify costs, contractual allocations, taxes, or Waters’s take-home earnings. CBS’s release does not establish a personal net-worth figure.

What the available figures do—and do not—show
| Figure | What it measures | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| $310 million (listed by Celebrity Net Worth; accessed 2026) | A third-party estimate of Waters’s net worth | A verified balance sheet or a figure confirmed by Waters |
| Approximately $400 million (reported in 2024 by The Guardian and Music Business Worldwide) | The reported Pink Floyd recorded-music and name-and-likeness rights transaction with Sony | Waters’s individual allocation, taxes, or net proceeds |
| Nearly half a billion dollars (reported by CBS in 2017 about the 2013 tour) | The reported gross taken in by Waters’s The Wall tour | Tour profit, personal earnings, or current net worth |
These numbers describe different things and are not competing valuations of Waters’s personal wealth. The sources reviewed do not provide enough information to calculate a more precise current figure.

In a 1987 interview, Waters recalled losing “a couple of million quid” through a finance-company arrangement, which he said wiped out nearly everything the band had made from Dark Side of the Moon. This is his retrospective account, not an independent audit or a statement of his finances today. The 1987 interview illustrates why career success, past earnings, and present net worth cannot be treated as interchangeable.
