Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on December 14, 2025. The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the deaths as murders. Their son, Nick Reiner, was charged and later indicted; as of the latest public update in this account, he had pleaded not guilty, and prosecutors said they would not seek the death penalty.
What happened to Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner?
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers assigned to its West Los Angeles Division responded at about 3:40 p.m. on December 14, 2025, to a death investigation at a residence in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood. LAPD identified the deceased as actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner. Its announcement said an arrest had been made in connection with the murders. LAPD’s December 15, 2025 announcement named its Robbery-Homicide Division as the investigative unit.
Who was charged, and what is the current status?
In December 2025, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced murder charges against Nick Reiner in his parents’ deaths. On August 12, 2026, the office said a grand jury indictment had been unsealed. The indictment is an accusation, not a determination of guilt. The District Attorney’s Office said the case remained under investigation by LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division and was being prosecuted by its Major Crimes Division. The initial charging announcement and the indictment update provide the county’s public account.
The Associated Press reported on September 15, 2026, that Nick Reiner had twice pleaded not guilty. A plea is not a finding on the charges. The reviewed public updates do not report a conviction.

Will prosecutors seek the death penalty?
No. On September 15, 2026, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that prosecutors would not seek the death penalty. The Associated Press reported that, if convicted, Reiner faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. That is a potential sentence, not an outcome in the case. The District Attorney’s Office announcement states the decision; the AP report gives the plea and sentencing context.
