He always chose his photos and wrote his captions for the upcoming weekend by Friday.” ABC News reported the explanation on July 22. The post’s intended date was July 14, but Simmons died the day before; staff shared the prepared message afterward.

Simmons died at his Los Angeles home on July 13, 2024, aged 76. ABC News reported the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s account that he experienced a fall on July 11, spent July 12 in bed, and was found unresponsive the following day. The medical examiner listed the cause of death as “sequelae of blunt traumatic injuries” and arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease as a contributing condition, according to ABC News. The circumstances of his death do not change the distinction between the message he published on July 12 and the post prepared for July 14.
