There is no reliable, current public disclosure establishing Richard O’Brien’s net worth, so a specific dollar figure should not be treated as fact. The clearest direct reporting on his earnings from The Rocky Horror Show is a 1990 interview in which he said he had not made a lot of money from it; that historical comment does not reveal his finances today.
Is Richard O’Brien’s net worth publicly known?
No reliable current figure is established by the sources reviewed here. A net-worth estimate repeated by celebrity-wealth websites is not a confirmed valuation unless it has transparent sourcing and independent support. No current asset list, income breakdown, liabilities, or named wealth statistic was located.
What did Richard O’Brien say about Rocky Horror earnings?
In a Washington Post profile published October 26, 1990, O’Brien said, “Let me just say that I haven’t ever made a lot of money out of ‘Rocky,’ but I’m not at all disappointed.” The article also reported that the show, in its various manifestations, had not made him rich. These were comments about his experience at that time, not a present-day financial disclosure.
The same article described O’Brien as a first-time writer who had not been in a strong position to negotiate large fees. That historical context may help explain his remarks, but it does not establish what he later earned or what his current financial position is.

Why Rocky Horror’s success does not reveal his wealth
A production’s popularity cannot by itself show how much its creator received. Contracts, collaborators, rights holders, expenses, and the period being considered all affect the relationship between a successful work and an individual’s earnings. The sources available here do not establish O’Brien’s current royalty rate, ownership terms, or total income from Rocky Horror.
