Later that year, LOS40 reported that the family had returned to the United States, citing an interview with Hello! Their present residence is not independently confirmed by the sources cited here.
What Richard Gere said about being happier in Spain
In an interview with Elle España published January 21, 2025, Gere described the family as being in a good moment: “The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever.” He added, “She, because she is at home and I because, if she is happy, I am happy.” E! News reported the interview and quotes; The Independent also covered his remarks.
His words tied his own happiness to his wife Alejandra Silva feeling at home. They describe how he felt in January 2025, not necessarily how he feels today or where the family lives now.
Why the couple moved to Madrid
A reciprocal change after years in Gere’s world
Gere had explained the plan before the move. In an interview published by Vanity Fair España on April 16, 2024, he said Silva had spent six years living in his world and that he wanted to spend at least six years in hers. The Independent’s English rendering of his statement was: “She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers.” He also spoke of the appeal of Silva being close to family, friends and Spanish culture. Vanity Fair España published the interview.

Family life and work with Hogar Sí
The move was also described as connected to the couple’s humanitarian work. In E! News’s account of the January 2025 interview, Silva said their presence in Madrid was tied to their involvement with Hogar Sí and their aim of helping end homelessness in Spain. That gives the move a purpose beyond a change of scenery, while Gere’s own explanation emphasized making room for Silva’s home and community.

In February 2025, Gere referred to Spain as his “new home” at the Goya International Awards, according to El País. On May 25, Cadena SER reported him saying: “Madrid nos gusta mucho y aquí nos vamos a quedar por unos años. Estamos muy contentos” (“We like Madrid very much and we are going to stay here for a few years. We are very happy”). Cadena SER’s report reflected an intention to remain, rather than confirmation of a fixed-length stay.
Rank #2
That intention was followed by a different account. In October 2025, LOS40 reported that Gere and Silva had returned to the United States after about a year in Spain, citing a Hello! interview. This later report does not independently establish their current residence, and the earlier idea of staying for several years should not be treated as a plan that was fulfilled.
