Rey Mysterio’s WrestleMania story is defined by a world-title breakthrough, a deeply personal victory over Eddie Guerrero, a father-son showdown, and a title change that lasted just 21 seconds. This ranking weighs in-ring execution and pacing, stakes, story payoff, career significance, and how distinctly each bout stands out as a WrestleMania moment. The order is subjective, not an official WWE ranking.
The ranking covers the matches through WrestleMania XL in 2024. WWE’s event report says Rey Fenix replaced Mysterio at WrestleMania 41, so that match does not count as a Rey Mysterio appearance. A secondary match-history page lists him for WrestleMania 42, but his participation there is not confirmed by the WWE records available here.
Every Rey Mysterio WrestleMania match, ranked
The ordering favors matches that combine compelling action with meaningful stakes and a memorable payoff. A career-defining result can lift a match even if it is not the longest or most elaborate; a striking moment alone does not automatically make a bout the best. WWE’s event reports establish the results and selected match details below, while the placements reflect this ranking’s editorial judgment.
-
WrestleMania 21 (2005): Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero
Result: Mysterio defeated Guerrero.
This is the strongest blend of ring work and personal meaning in the list. The two were close friends and WWE Tag Team Champions before meeting as opponents, a relationship WWE highlights in its Eddie Guerrero profile. That history gives the match an emotional charge beyond a standard rivalry payoff. Its place at number one rests on that rare combination of high-level competition and an unmistakably personal story.

WrestleMania 22 (2006): Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton
Result: Mysterio won the World Heavyweight Championship in the triple threat match.
This is the defining career milestone among Mysterio’s WrestleMania bouts: he left with the World Heavyweight Championship after facing reigning champion Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. WWE’s WrestleMania 22 coverage identifies the title win and calls Mysterio the smallest Superstar to hold that championship. The result makes the match essential to his WrestleMania legacy, even if its three-way structure offers less intimate storytelling than his matches with Guerrero or his son.

WrestleMania 39 (2023): Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio
Result: Rey defeated his son, Dominik.
The match turned a family conflict into a WrestleMania payoff. The father-versus-son premise gives the bout a story hook unlike any other on this list, and its timing adds another layer: WWE notes that Rey’s Hall of Fame induction took place the night before. WWE’s event results confirm the match and Rey’s victory. It ranks just below the top two because the personal stakes and career context are exceptional, though the title-winning milestone in 2006 carries greater historical weight.
-
WrestleMania 26 (2010): Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Result: Mysterio defeated Punk in a personal-stakes match tied to Punk’s Straight Edge Society.

The conflict gave the match a clear emotional engine, and WWE’s recap identifies a crisp finishing sequence: Mysterio countered Punk’s GTS and connected with the 619. WWE described the result this way: “Mysterio rang-up 619 on his second attempt and successfully defeated his Straight Edge nemesis.” That is promotional recap language, not independent criticism, but the reported counter-and-finish provides a concrete reason to remember this bout as both a story payoff and a showcase for Mysterio’s signature offense. WrestleMania 25 (2009): Rey Mysterio vs. JBL
Result: Mysterio defeated JBL in 21 seconds to win the Intercontinental Championship.

Few WrestleMania matches make their point so quickly. WWE’s match report gives the bout a duration of 21 seconds and describes Mysterio catching JBL off guard with an immediate 619 followed by a Frog Splash. The abrupt title change is a memorable upset, and its efficiency is the attraction: it is a sharp burst of surprise rather than a sustained contest. The 21-second figure is WWE’s reported duration, not an independently measured time. (WWE’s WrestleMania 25 report.)
-

The tag-team win extends the conflict between Rey and Dominik into another WrestleMania, this time with Andrade and Escobar involved. That continuity gives the match a place in Rey’s family storyline, while the documented result is a victory for Rey and his partner. WWE’s WrestleMania XL results confirm the outcome. It ranks below the singles encounters because the central father-son tension shares the match with a second rivalry and a tag-team format.

WrestleMania 25 (2009): Rey Mysterio’s win over JBL, not a long-form showcase
This entry is already listed above; it is not a separate match.
What counts as a Rey Mysterio WrestleMania match?
This ranking includes documented matches through WrestleMania XL. WrestleMania 41 should not be added: WWE reported that Rey Fenix replaced Rey Mysterio at the last minute in the match against El Grande Americano. A secondary history page lists a Rey appearance in a WrestleMania 42 Intercontinental Championship six-pack ladder match, but that claim is unresolved here because WWE confirmation of his participation and the result was not located. The list therefore does not present WrestleMania 42 as an established appearance.
The available official records support the featured results and match facts above, but they do not establish a complete match-by-match chronology for every WrestleMania between Mysterio’s debut and WrestleMania XL. For that reason, this is a ranking of the documented matches presented here, not a claim that every intermediate appearance has been independently verified.
