Restless is a two-part BBC espionage drama about a woman who discovers that her mother’s quiet life conceals a past as a British wartime spy. With Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell and Michelle Dockery in its cast, it offers viewers a family mystery interwoven with danger, deception and suspected betrayal across two eras.
What is Restless about?
Ruth Gilmartin learns that her mother, Sally, has been living under a false identity. Sally is really Eva Delectorskaya, a former British Secret Service agent whose work took place during the Second World War. A story told across two eras
The wartime chapters follow Eva through dangerous intelligence work and growing suspicions of betrayal. In the later timeline, the threat reaches into the life she has built under another name. The two strands connect a daughter’s investigation with a spy’s unresolved past.
Who stars in the BBC drama?

Is Restless a miniseries or a film?
Restless is a television adaptation presented in two parts, not a feature film. It first aired on BBC One on December 27 and 28, 2012, according to the series reference page. Apple TV likewise lists two parts.
Is the series based on a book?
Yes. The drama adapts William Boyd’s 2006 espionage novel Restless.
