The headline “5,000-drone Christmas show” points to two separate Texas holiday events in 2024. In Mansfield, Sky Elements said 4,981 drones formed a record-setting gingerbread village alongside Thanksgiving and Christmas scenes. A different show in North Richland Hills was linked in reporting to a 30-minute animation record, but the article describing it conflicts over whether 2,500 or 5,000 drones took part.
Where was the 5,000-drone Christmas show?
The best-documented 4,981-drone display took place in Mansfield, Texas. Sky Elements, the event producer, reported that it and drone-maker UVify used 4,981 IFO drones to create what the company described as the largest aerial display of a gingerbread village made out of drones. “5,000” is a rounded description of that count, not the exact figure reported by the producer.
There is a date discrepancy in the available coverage: Sky Elements’ account is dated November 28, 2024, while AFP relayed Guinness video wording that gives November 26. Dallas Innovates also uses November 28. The sources therefore do not establish a single undisputed event date. Sky Elements’ account and AFP’s fact check provide the competing date references.
What did the Mansfield show depict?
The program mixed Thanksgiving and Christmas imagery rather than focusing only on Christmas. The reported aerial scenes included a turkey, a snowman, a gingerbread village, Santa and reindeer. Sky Elements said the display met the gingerbread-village category’s minimum requirement of 1,000 drones; its reported count of 4,981 exceeded that threshold.

Sky Elements’ Chief Pilot, Preston Ward, described the project as a way to create holiday cheer with a drone-built gingerbread village, and said it was the company’s 11th Guinness World Record. Those are remarks from a participating company, not an independent record-verification statement. Sky Elements’ page links to Guinness, but the link resolved to the general Guinness homepage in the available reporting; the company’s account is the specific source for the 4,981 figure and category claim.
Was the show in Mansfield or North Richland Hills?
Both places are associated with Texas holiday drone coverage, but they refer to different events. The Mansfield display is the one tied to the 4,981-drone gingerbread-village record. North Richland Hills hosted a separate Christmas show on December 20, 2024, at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts & Athletic Complex.

The North Richland Hills event was described as a drive-in show with sound synchronized through car radios tuned to 88.9 FM. Sky Elements’ event listing described it as free with a donation of a new, unwrapped toy, with parking on a first-come, first-served basis. These are historical details about the 2024 event, not a current schedule or availability notice. Interesting Engineering’s event report gives the drive-in and FM details; Sky Elements’ holiday listing gives the event terms.
Which record did each Texas show break?
The two record claims use different measures and should not be combined into one “5,000 drones for 30 minutes” claim.

| Event | Record claim | Drone count in the reporting |
|---|---|---|
| Mansfield holiday display | Largest aerial display of a gingerbread village made out of drones, according to Sky Elements | 4,981 IFO drones, reported by Sky Elements |
| North Richland Hills Christmas show | Longest-animation record, reported as 30 minutes by Interesting Engineering | 2,500 drones in one passage of the article; its headline and earlier text suggest 5,000 |
The North Richland Hills count is disputed within the available article itself: one passage says 2,500 drones performed the 30-minute animation, while the headline and earlier text imply 5,000. The duration claim and the Mansfield count-based claim are distinct; the conflicting account does not establish that 5,000 drones performed a 30-minute animation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who made the drones and produced the display?
Sky Elements produced the Mansfield show with UVify, whose IFO aircraft were identified as the swarm hardware. UVify COO Robert Cheek praised the team’s work and Sky Elements partnership in company-published remarks. That identifies the partners and equipment involved, but the reported record claim should still be attributed to Sky Elements rather than treated as independent confirmation.
