Radiohead’s Hail to the Thief (Live Recordings 2003-2009) is a 12-track live album released digitally on August 13, 2025. Its performances were recorded in London, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Dublin between 2003 and 2009. Thom Yorke said revisiting the archive recordings while working on a Shakespeare theatre production helped prompt the release.
Why Radiohead released these live recordings
Yorke connected the album to arrangements he was developing for the Shakespeare production Hamlet/Hail to the Thief. In the release note on Radiohead’s Bandcamp page, he said he requested archive performances while thinking about the production, was struck by the energy of the band’s playing and felt the recordings should be released. XL Recordings’ release page also reproduces his explanation.

“I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played. I barely recognised us, and it helped me find a way forward.”
Yorke described the process as cathartic. His comments frame the album not simply as a collection of concert versions, but as recordings that took on new meaning while he was working on the theatre production.
