Spoilers for Queen of Tears Season 1, Episode 13. Episode 13 brings Hae-in and Hyun-woo to a painful decision: surgery may save her life, but it could erase her memories. Before she goes into the hospital, Hyun-woo tells her about that risk and urges her to have the operation. Meanwhile, the Hong family searches for the fortune Hong Man-dae concealed, and Hyun-woo tries to turn its disappearance into leverage against Eun-sung.
What happens in Queen of Tears episode 13?
The episode, which aired April 20, 2024, moves between the Hong family’s struggle to recover its footing after Hong Man-dae’s death and Hae-in and Hyun-woo’s renewed closeness amid her illness. Netflix lists Queen of Tears as a 16-episode Korean romantic comedy-drama. Rotten Tomatoes’ episode listing gives the air date; Netflix’s catalog lists the series format and episode count.
Why is the Hong family searching for the secret fund?
After Hong Man-dae dies, the family searches a hidden passage at his home for the secret fund he had kept there, but the room is empty. They suspect Mo Seul-hee moved the money. Man-dae’s recorded message expresses regret for having lived a materialistic life, giving the family’s search an uneasy counterpoint: the fortune they hope to recover is tied to the values he came to regret.
Hyun-woo turns the missing money into a corporate counterattack. He uses it as bait to keep Eun-sung moving funds, hoping to build a case for embezzlement and malpractice. How do Hae-in and Hyun-woo reconnect?
Man-dae’s funeral prompts Hae-in to confront how limited her time may be. She tells Hyun-woo she wants more time to live. Rather than focus on accumulating money, she begins thinking about the happy memories she wants to make.
Hae-in accepts Hyun-woo’s proposal. She also reveals that the MP3 player from their school days belonged to her. In another intimate detail, she colors her nails with balsam-flower extract as part of a first-love custom; Hyun-woo still does not realize he was her first love. These moments bring warmth to an episode otherwise shaped by uncertainty.

What is the surgery risk, and when does Hyun-woo tell Hae-in?
A call from Germany brings news of a possible treatment. The surgery could save Hae-in’s life, but the family understands that she may lose all her memories. They initially decide not to tell her about that risk until they reach Germany.
As Hae-in prepares to leave, Eun-sung learns about the surgery and confronts Hyun-woo for keeping the possible memory loss from her. On the way to the hospital, Hae-in admits that Yong-suk, the raccoon she once claimed lived on the Queens Group rooftop, never existed. Then, before she enters the hospital, Hyun-woo tells her the truth: the operation may cost her memories. He urges her to go through with it.

The episode ends with Hae-in facing the choice between surgery and possible memory loss or refusing the operation at the risk of her life. A flashback shows Hyun-woo promising that he will stay by her side if she loses her memories. The choice remains unresolved at the episode’s close; the surgery is a cliffhanger, not an outcome.
