El periodista puertorriqueño Alex Delgado anunció en marzo de 2025 que tenía cáncer. Ese mismo mes dijo que su diagnóstico era un sarcoma de tejido blando en estadio 4 y que comenzaría quimioterapia. En agosto informó de una mejoría en el área abdominal, pero aclaró que el tratamiento continuaba. Delgado falleció en diciembre de 2025.
Cuándo y cómo anunció Alex Delgado que tenía cáncer
El 8 de marzo de 2025, durante una misa de Unción de los Enfermos en Ponce, el sacerdote Orlando Lugo contó que Delgado había recibido un diagnóstico de cáncer aproximadamente una semana y media antes. La noticia se publicó en medios días después. El 16 de marzo, Delgado agradeció públicamente el apoyo y las oraciones, y escribió, según reprodujo People en Español: “gracias a Dios estoy bien, dentro de las circunstancias”.
Qué tipo de cáncer dijo que tenía
En una conversación difundida por NotiUno el 17 de marzo, Delgado contó que le habían encontrado una masa en el intestino y lesiones metastásicas en el hígado, y que esperaba los resultados finales de una biopsia para definir el tratamiento, según informó Primera Hora. El 20 de marzo, Metro Puerto Rico informó que Delgado identificó su condición como sarcoma de tejido blando en estadio 4 y que tenía previsto iniciar quimioterapia el 24 de marzo.
El diagnóstico y los detalles clínicos aquí descritos son los que Delgado comunicó públicamente y los que recogieron esos medios; no constituyen un expediente médico ni permiten extraer conclusiones sobre otros pacientes. En una cobertura publicada el 20 de marzo, Delgado también expresó confianza en su recuperación: “Tengo la seguridad de que voy a estar sano”, según Metro Puerto Rico.

Marzo de 2025: tratamiento previsto
En marzo, el periodista habló de la masa, las lesiones y la biopsia pendiente, y se informó que comenzaría quimioterapia. El 7 de abril, en el pódcast Entre Nos, conversó sobre su reacción al diagnóstico, su familia, sus responsabilidades laborales y económicas, y el apoyo de personas cercanas, según Metro Puerto Rico.
Agosto de 2025: mejoría parcial, no un anuncio de curación
Durante una gala de la Sociedad Americana Contra el Cáncer de Puerto Rico el 25 de agosto, Delgado dijo que en el área abdominal “Prácticamente […] ya desapareció casi todo”, según Metro Puerto Rico. En el mismo mensaje señaló que el proceso seguía y que apenas estaban en los primeros kilómetros. Por tanto, esa actualización describía una mejoría en esa zona, no un resultado final ni una curación.

Fallecimiento de Alex Delgado
En diciembre de 2025, TeleOnce anunció el fallecimiento de Delgado y recordó su última entrevista, realizada el 19 de marzo. La Universidad de Puerto Rico también difundió un comunicado institucional de duelo. La noticia de su diagnóstico pertenece a marzo de 2025; las actualizaciones posteriores y su fallecimiento completan el contexto conocido hasta diciembre de ese año.
