The album’s return followed Pulp’s reunion-era touring. The songs were developed at different points in the band’s career, rather than all being written specifically for the 2024 sessions. The Associated Press reports that the late Steve Mackey has writing credits on “Grown Ups” and “Got to Have Love.” The Associated Press’s album report discusses the mix of older and newer material.
How Pulp made More
After Jarvis Cocker brought new songs to the group, the band worked them out over a few creative days, drummer Nick Banks told GRAMMY.com. Banks said recording and mixing took three weeks. He also described the album as varied, rather than built around one consistent sound.
#1 Best Overall
Cocker told BMG that the group developed the remaining songs in the first half of 2024 after performing “The Hymn of the North” during the 2023 tour period. He called the November 2024 sessions with producer James Ford the shortest recording period of any Pulp album. “It was obviously ready to happen,” he said. Official Charts identifies Orbb Studio as the recording location; BMG’s account quotes Cocker placing the recording in Walthamstow, London. The sources agree on the three-week duration but describe the location differently.
