Federal prosecutors asked for Sean “Diddy” Combs to serve at least 135 months in prison—11 years and three months—but that was a sentencing request, not the sentence. On October 3, 2025, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian imposed a 50-month prison term and a $500,000 fine. The jury had convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
What sentence did prosecutors request, and what did the judge impose?

The figures describe three different procedural positions. The 135-month request was 11 years and three months; the court instead imposed 50 months. AP reported that Combs had already spent about a year in custody by sentencing.
What was Combs convicted of?
The jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. It acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Those acquittals matter: the acquitted offenses must not be described as crimes for which he was convicted.
Prosecutors argued that the circumstances surrounding the crimes of conviction and their effects warranted a substantial sentence. ABC News quoted their filing: “The defendant will not be punished for any crimes of which he was acquitted, of course, but punishment for his crimes of conviction must take into account the manner in which he committed them.” That was the prosecution’s argument, not a statement by the judge. What did the judge say at sentencing?
Judge Subramanian explained his reasoning while imposing the sentence. AP reported that he told Combs: “Why did it happen so long? Because you had the power and the resources to keep it going, and because you weren’t caught.” The quotation appeared in AP’s October 3, 2025 sentencing report.
