Three documented cases show why the phrase “murdered in cold blood” needs care: Bruiser Brody was stabbed at a wrestling event, Dino Bravo was shot at home in a killing described as unsolved, and Nancy Benoit was killed by her husband, Chris Benoit, in a family homicide-suicide. Their legal outcomes are different, and these cases are examples—not a complete worldwide list.

What the phrase “murdered in cold blood” means here

“In cold blood” is an evocative phrase, not a legal finding or proof of motive. This article focuses on three professional-wrestling cases in which a wrestler was a homicide victim. It does not claim to count every such case or establish how common these killings are.

Bruiser Brody: stabbed backstage at an event

What happened

Bruiser Brody was the ring name of Frank Goodish. In July 1988, he was stabbed in a dressing-room bathroom at a stadium in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and later died in hospital, according to contemporary Los Angeles Times reporting.

What happened in court

Contemporary UPI reporting said fellow wrestler Jose Huertas Gonzalez, known as Invader I, was charged in Goodish’s killing. Later coverage reports Gonzalez was acquitted; he was not convicted. The charge and acquittal are the established legal outcome to emphasize, rather than treating allegations or criticism of the trial as a court finding. UPI’s report on the charge; later case coverage.

Dino Bravo: killed at home, with the case described as unsolved

What happened

Dino Bravo, born Adolfo Bresciano, was a World Wrestling Federation performer. A contemporary newspaper report says he was found shot to death at his home in Laval, Quebec, in March 1993. Contemporary reporting.

What is—and is not—established

The available case overview describes Bravo’s murder as unsolved. It discusses possible organized-crime connections and cigarette-smuggling theories, but those are reported theories, not proven motives. Case overview. The evidence presented here does not establish a definitive motive or a present-day update to the case status.

Nancy Benoit: killed in a family homicide-suicide

What happened

Nancy Benoit was a professional wrestler. In June 2007, she was killed by her husband, professional wrestler Chris Benoit, who also killed their son Daniel and then died by suicide. The publisher’s description of Irvin Muchnick’s book identifies the case as a murder-suicide. Simon & Schuster’s description of the book.

How the public statements developed

WWE’s June 25, 2007 statement said the company had been informed by authorities that Chris Benoit, Nancy, and Daniel had been found dead. Its June 26 follow-up described the events as a double homicide-suicide. The initial statement came before that confirmation and should not be read as the final account. WWE’s statement relayed information available at the time; it was an employer statement, not an independent forensic report. WWE’s June 25 statement; WWE’s June 26 follow-up.

Why this is a selected set, not a complete list

These cases differ in location, relationship between victim and perpetrator, and legal outcome: one ended in an acquittal after a charge, one is described as unsolved, and one was a family homicide-suicide. The sources supporting this article do not establish a reliable total number of professional wrestlers murdered, so a numerical count or claim of completeness would be misleading.

For a book-length account focused on the Benoit case, Simon & Schuster lists Irvin Muchnick’s Chris & Nancy: The True Story of the Benoit Murder-Suicide and Pro Wrestling’s Cocktail of Death. It concerns that case, rather than serving as a general directory of wrestlers murdered. Publisher page.
