Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePublic videos are available to anyone and can be discovered through YouTube; private videos are limited to you and people you select. Unlisted videos sit between them: anyone with the link can watch and pass it on, but the video generally does not appear in search or on your channel’s Videos tab.
How public, private, and unlisted videos differ
| Setting | Who can watch | How people find it | Comments | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public | Anyone on YouTube | Appears on your channel and may appear in search, related videos, recommendations, and subscriber feeds. It can also be shared by URL or added to a channel section or public playlist. | Available | Broad access and platform discovery |
| Private | You and the people you specifically select | Does not appear in public search or your channel’s Videos tab. A URL alone does not grant general access. | Unavailable | Sharing with a selected audience |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link; viewers can reshare it | Generally absent from search and your channel’s Videos tab, unless someone adds it to a public playlist. It can be shared by URL or added to a channel section or public playlist. | Available; anyone with the link can see comments | Link-based viewing without ordinary public discovery |
YouTube may review videos in all three visibility settings using automated systems and human reviewers for ad suitability, copyright, and abuse prevention. Private means access is restricted from the public; it does not mean the video is invisible to YouTube. See YouTube’s privacy-settings comparison and its comment guidance.
Which setting should you choose?
Choose Public for reach
Set a video to Public when you want anyone to be able to watch and want it eligible for normal channel and platform discovery. Public visibility does not guarantee that YouTube will surface it in search or recommendations.
Choose Private for selected viewers
Use Private when only you and specific people should be able to watch. Share it through YouTube Studio’s private sharing flow by entering the invitees’ email addresses; sending the video URL alone is not a general-access invitation.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose Unlisted for link-based access
Use Unlisted when viewers should be able to watch through a link without needing a Google Account, and you accept that any recipient can pass that link on. It is also the choice if you want comments on a video that is not ordinarily discoverable to the public. Unlisted is not restricted access: possession of the link is enough to watch.

Upload defaults for younger creators
YouTube’s current help guidance says the default visibility is Private for creators aged 13–17 and Public for creators aged 18 or older. Everyone can change a video’s visibility setting. Since platform defaults can change, check the current controls when uploading.
What happened to some older unlisted videos?
Starting July 23, 2021, YouTube made older unlisted videos uploaded before January 1, 2017, Private unless their owners opted out. This change applied to that specific group, not to all unlisted videos. For an affected video, the old link no longer lets viewers watch or share it, and an embed may stop working.

YouTube describes options for affected videos: keep them Private, return them to legacy unlisted status, make them Public, or reupload them as a new Unlisted video. A reupload gets a new URL and does not carry over the original video’s views or comments. See YouTube’s guidance on older unlisted content.
