If a power cut stops a PRISM Live Studio stream, keep the whole local chain running: the phone or computer encoding the stream, the router, and the modem or ONT if your broadband uses one. A UPS can bridge a brief interruption; an inverter and battery may suit longer cuts if sized for the actual load. If fixed broadband also fails, a battery-powered mobile hotspot may provide another internet route where coverage and upload performance are adequate. None of these options guarantees that PRISM or YouTube will resume the broadcast automatically.
Find out what failed first
A stream can stop because the streaming device lost power, the network equipment went offline, or the internet connection became unstable. These are separate failure points: restoring electricity to a computer will not restore a stream if the router is still off or broadband itself is unavailable.
PRISM Live Studio Help Center says its desktop “Disconnected from server” issue is usually caused by network instability. Its listed causes include an unstable local network, insufficient upload speed, weak Wi-Fi, and security software. For desktop streaming, PRISM recommends a wired LAN connection where possible. - Streaming device off: Restore power to the phone or computer running PRISM, then check whether the app and stream are still active.
- Router, modem or ONT off: Restore power to the network equipment too. The streaming device needs a working internet path, not just electricity.
- Internet unavailable or unstable: Check the broadband connection and, if available, test a separate mobile-data route. A Wi-Fi signal from a router does not by itself prove that internet service is working.
Choose a backup for the failure you have

Keep the full streaming setup powered
List the equipment that must remain on for your stream to continue: the device running PRISM and each network device between it and the internet. Depending on your connection, that can include a router and a modem or ONT. A backup that powers only the computer may not keep the stream online if the broadband equipment loses power.

Choose a UPS or inverter by checking its capacity against the combined load and the runtime you need. The runtime depends on your equipment and the actual load; it cannot be inferred from the product category alone. An India-facing APC store page lists UPS products for Wi-Fi routers and modems, but does not establish a capacity or runtime for your complete streaming setup. - Check the power requirements and compatibility of every device you plan to connect.
- Confirm the UPS or inverter has enough suitable outlets and capacity for the complete critical load.
- Test the arrangement under load before a scheduled stream, including whether equipment remains powered through a switchover.
- Do not assume a particular runtime without checking specifications for your equipment and testing the setup.
Use a hotspot only as an internet fallback
A battery-powered hotspot addresses a different problem from a UPS: it may supply internet when fixed broadband is down, but it does not power the phone or computer running PRISM. Jio’s support page describes JioFi operation with an activated Jio SIM and battery, connecting Wi-Fi devices to Jio’s network. Before relying on mobile data, check coverage where you will stream, data allowance, hotspot battery life, and upload performance at the hours you plan to go live. If possible, test the complete setup in advance; signal bars alone do not tell you whether the connection can sustain your stream.
Adjust PRISM when the connection is weak, not absent
If internet service is still available but unstable or too slow for your current settings, lowering resolution may help. PRISM’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends leaving its Adaptive option enabled. These adjustments cannot overcome a complete power or internet outage. PRISM describes an error when a connection is lost for more than 10 minutes and advises checking network conditions and lowering resolution if bandwidth is insufficient; that is product troubleshooting guidance, not a universal YouTube recovery timer. On desktop, prefer wired LAN where practical and investigate local network stability, upload speed, Wi-Fi quality, and security software if PRISM reports a disconnected server. For mobile streaming, persistent transmission loss can lead to termination; the platform may stop a live stream after it has not received video for a period, and PRISM notes that platform criteria differ and can change. Check YouTube after power returns
- Restore power to the streaming device and all required network equipment.
- Confirm internet access, then open PRISM and check its stream status.
- Use a separate device to check the YouTube channel and determine whether the broadcast is still live or has ended.
- If YouTube shows that the broadcast has stopped, restart the stream from PRISM and verify on YouTube that the new broadcast is live.
Do not assume that restoring electricity automatically resumes a terminated broadcast. PRISM’s mobile guidance says the app may consider a stream stopped after the platform reports termination, so verify the actual YouTube broadcast rather than relying only on the encoder screen.

India-specific PRISM connection error
If you are in India and PRISM desktop reports the specific YouTube RTMP “Failed to connect to the server” error, PRISM’s guidance says to set IP Family to IPv4 Only and enable network optimizations. PRISM attributes this error to network infrastructure changes and IPv6 transition conditions. This is a connection diagnostic, not a remedy for an electricity outage.
