Find where the image first turns black before changing settings: in the video player, PRISM preview, captured window or desktop, or the YouTube live output. Each points to a different part of the setup, and PRISM’s official guidance does not identify one universal fix. Start with the matching branch below.
First, locate the black screen
Check the source and each stage in order. If possible, compare the original video in its own player, PRISM’s preview, and the live output on YouTube. Note the first place the image disappears; a black YouTube player is not the same problem as a black PRISM source.
- Black in the original browser player: troubleshoot that browser’s video rendering first.
- Visible in the browser but black in PRISM: identify whether PRISM uses a Browser source, Window Capture, or Display Capture.
- Visible in PRISM preview but black on YouTube: check the outgoing stream and the YouTube player separately; the available official guidance does not establish a single fix for this case.
- Black camera or capture-card input: use the device checks below rather than browser-video fixes.
PRISM notes that “videos and sounds from some webpages may not play normal due to technical constraints.” That warning applies to webpage sources and means a setting change is not guaranteed to make every webpage video work. PRISM Live Studio FAQ and support
If PRISM uses a Browser source
- In PRISM, identify the affected source as a Browser source. Test the page in a normal browser as well, so you know whether playback fails before capture.
- Reduce or temporarily remove unnecessary Browser sources, then test the affected source again. PRISM says Browser sources can add GPU load and recommends minimizing them where possible.
- In the browser settings, enable Use hardware acceleration when available, then restart the browser and test again. PRISM documents this setting as a performance recommendation; it is a check, not a guaranteed black-screen fix. The exact settings path varies by browser and version.
PRISM’s performance guidance covers hardware acceleration and minimizing Browser sources. Its FAQ also cautions that some webpage video or audio may not play normally because of technical constraints.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If PRISM captures a browser window or desktop
Check graphics-card assignment
On systems with more than one graphics processor, check that PRISM and the target browser or application use the same graphics card. A mismatch is a relevant capture setting to investigate, not proof that it is the cause.
Choose the documented Windows capture method
For Window Capture on Windows 10 version 1903 or later, PRISM recommends Windows Graphics Capture. For Display Capture, PRISM’s documented guidance recommends DXGI Desktop Duplication for optimal performance in that context. Open the capture source’s properties and review its available capture-method setting; labels and options may vary with PRISM version and capture type. See PRISM’s capture guidance.

If YouTube’s own video player is black or green
If the original video is already black or green in YouTube before PRISM captures it, follow YouTube’s player-rendering guidance and test the browser’s hardware-acceleration setting. YouTube’s help page is specifically about a green screen in the video player; it is related advice for playback rendering, not evidence that the same change fixes a black PRISM livestream. YouTube Help: Green screen in video player
If you are playing a local video file
PRISM’s Media Source plays files stored on your device. Use it only for a recording you have permission to stream. Where practical, match the media’s resolution to the transmission resolution: PRISM notes that larger media files use more CPU, while hardware decoding can increase GPU usage. If changing decoding options, test the preview and stream again rather than assuming hardware decoding will reduce the load. See PRISM’s Media Source guidance.

If the source is a camera or capture card
These checks apply to a physical video-capture input, not a webpage video:
- Check the cable and confirm the device is recognized by the computer.
- Check that the device driver is installed and current.
- Close other applications that may be using the camera or capture device, then reopen the source in PRISM.
- Confirm the selected resolution and frame rate are supported by the device.
PRISM’s device guidance lists these as capture-device checks. Buying a capture card or replacing a cable is not an established fix for black browser playback. PRISM Live Studio support

Check compatibility after source-specific fixes
If the issue persists across sources, compare the computer with PRISM’s stated PC-app requirements. PRISM’s FAQ lists DirectX 11 support and an NVIDIA GTX 960 or equivalent as the minimum graphics requirement. This is a product requirement, not evidence that upgrading a graphics card will fix this particular symptom. PRISM Live Studio FAQ

| What turns black | First checks | What the guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| PRISM Browser source | Reduce unnecessary Browser sources; test browser hardware acceleration. | PRISM warns some webpage video and audio may not play normally; neither check guarantees a fix. |
| Captured browser window or desktop | Check graphics-card assignment and the capture method. | PRISM recommends Windows Graphics Capture for Window Capture on Windows 10 version 1903 or later, and DXGI Desktop Duplication for Display Capture in its documented context. |
| YouTube player before capture | Try the browser’s hardware-acceleration setting and consult YouTube’s player help. | YouTube’s cited help is about green-screen playback, not a proven PRISM livestream fix. |
| Local Media Source file | Confirm the file is permitted for use; align resolution where practical and consider CPU/GPU load. | PRISM plays local files; larger files use more CPU and hardware decoding can increase GPU use. |
| Camera or capture card | Check cable, recognition, drivers, app conflicts, and supported resolution/FPS. | These checks concern capture devices, not webpage-video playback. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep an uploaded recording or playlist running as a YouTube live stream, rather than troubleshoot PRISM playback, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
