Her arrival in white silk, with a diamond tiara securing her veil and eight bridesmaids beside her, became part of a royal wedding watched by more than 20 million viewers, according to the UK Parliament.
When and where did Princess Margaret marry Antony Armstrong-Jones?
The couple married on 6 May 1960 at Westminster Abbey. The UK Parliament’s collection record for the wedding order of service states that Margaret arrived at 11:30 a.m. UK Parliament’s order-of-service record documents the ceremony and its timing.
What did Princess Margaret wear?
Margaret wore white silk and a diamond tiara, and was accompanied by eight bridesmaids, according to the Parliament record. Historic Royal Palaces identifies the tiara as Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, which held her veil in place. Historic Royal Palaces’ account of royal weddings gives that specific identification.
Some secondary accounts identify a different tiara, the Poltimore. The institutional account cited here names Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara; the available evidence does not resolve the discrepancy, so the two names should not be treated as interchangeable or presented as a settled consensus.

Why was the wedding a public spectacle?
The ceremony brought royal pageantry into a new kind of public view: Parliament describes it as the first royal wedding to be televised. Its souvenir-programme page says more than 20 million viewers watched the service. The Parliament souvenir-programme record gives that characterization and viewer figure.
Historic Royal Palaces describes a separate measure of the broadcast’s reach: more than 80 broadcasting organisations from 50 countries took live pictures from the BBC. That figure counts participating organisations and countries, not viewers, and should not be added to or recast as an estimate of the audience.

What survives in the historical record?
The order of service and souvenir programme preserve documentary traces of the event, while the broadcast itself is also represented in archival collections. Library and Archives Canada catalogs television coverage of the wedding, providing evidence that records of the broadcast are held in an official archive; that catalog record alone does not establish public viewing or reproduction rights.
