What do the reported palace rent figures show?
A 2026 National Audit Office (NAO) report gives specific information about Beatrice’s rent basis, but it does not establish that she owns the residence or disclose her net worth. The NAO says her rent was based on 60% of a 2020 open-market valuation in 2020 and 2021, rising to 68% of a 2026 open-market valuation by 2026. These percentages describe rent terms, not the value of an asset belonging to her.
The NAO says non-working members typically pay adjusted rent at 60% of open-market value because royal residences are in a secure area with restrictions on who may live there. Royal finance reporting can include public funding, household operating costs, private income and assets held for institutional or national purposes. Those categories are not interchangeable. The Royal Household’s explanation of royal finances distinguishes official support from the monarch’s private income; institutional or public assets should not be counted as Beatrice’s private property without evidence that they belong to her.
