On April 10, 2024, Prince William posted a tribute to England footballer Rachel Daly after she announced her retirement from international football. Contemporaneous reports described it as his first social-media post since Catherine, Princess of Wales, announced on March 22 that she had cancer and had begun preventative chemotherapy.
What did Prince William post about Rachel Daly?
William thanked Daly for her performances with England’s Lionesses and referred to her continued career with Aston Villa. Entertainment Tonight reported his message as: “Thank you for so many unforgettable performances with @lionesses, @racheldaly3. Plenty more goals for Villa now! W.” Entertainment Tonight published that transcription; it is a reported wording, not an independently verified copy of the original post.

When and where did he share it?
The tribute was reported on April 10, 2024, after Daly announced she was retiring from international competition. Coverage differed on how it appeared: Entertainment Tonight described an Instagram post, E! News called it an Instagram Story on the couple’s joint account, and Fox News reported that it appeared on X and Instagram Stories. E! News’ account and Fox News’ report describe those platform details.
What does “first post since” mean?
The phrase refers to William’s first reported social-media post since Catherine’s announcement. It does not mean he had made no public appearances or carried out no official duties in the intervening period. The reports frame the milestone specifically as a return to posting on social media.

What had Catherine announced?
On March 22, 2024, Catherine said that tests after abdominal surgery had found cancer and that she had started preventative chemotherapy. She did not identify the type of cancer in that announcement. William’s message to Daly was about football, not an update on Catherine’s health.
