Josefa announced his death and, in wording reproduced by news outlets, described it as a sudden cardiac death. Reports disagreed about where he died, so the location remains uncertain.
What happened to Prince Harald von Hohenzollern?
News reports published July 1–2, 2025, said Harald died unexpectedly at age 63 shortly before the couple’s first child was expected in July. The Daily Beast reported that Josefa wrote, “My beloved husband, Harald v. Hohenzollern, died completely unexpectedly of a sudden cardiac death.” The Daily Beast also reproduced her statement: “I need time to grieve, say goodbye, and be there for our unborn child.”
These quotations were reported by news outlets as wording from Josefa’s social-media announcement; they are not an independently authenticated official transcript. The available coverage does not establish an official medical finding. Some headlines characterized the cause as cardiac arrest, while Josefa’s reported wording described a “sudden cardiac death.”
When did he die, and when was the baby expected?
Contemporaneous coverage placed Harald’s death in late June 2025. E! Online reported that Josefa posted her announcement on June 25. Reports said the couple’s first child was expected in July 2025; the coverage cited here does not establish the birth date or provide a later family update.

Reports said Harald and Josefa married in September 2024 in her hometown of Kollnburg, Germany. Some accounts also said they had met at a trade fair in 2022.
Where did Harald die?
The location is not consistent across reports. The Daily Beast, NDTV, and HOLA! USA placed the incident in Namibia, while E! Online reported South Africa. The location should therefore be treated as disputed rather than stated as settled. Several reports connected the trip to Harald’s business in the diamond industry.

What does the Hohenzollern title mean?
Harald was described in the coverage as a German prince associated with the House of Hohenzollern, a dynasty that historically ruled in German territories. Germany’s monarchy ended after World War I. In this context, “prince” is a dynastic or aristocratic title; it does not mean Harald held public office or belonged to a reigning German royal family.
