Prince George is set to attend Eton College. A June 2025 report described Eton as a likely choice, but it was not confirmed at the time. Kensington Palace confirmed the decision on 16 June 2026, and a report published on 8 September said George began there that day.
When did the report become a confirmed decision?
On 23 June 2025, Rachel Burchfield reported for InStyle in an article carried by AOL that Eton was a likely next school for George. The article attributed the speculation to a widely circulated Daily Mail report and unnamed sources, and explicitly noted that there had been no official announcement. It should be read as reporting about a possible choice, not as confirmation from the Palace. Read the June 2025 report at AOL.
That changed on 16 June 2026, when Kensington Palace confirmed that George would attend Eton from September. The Standard quoted a Palace spokesperson: “Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September.” The spokesperson was not named in the report. On 8 September 2026, LBC reported that George began his education at Eton that day, updating the earlier announcement of a September start. LBC’s 8 September update.

Where did Prince George go to school before Eton?
Before the transition, George attended Lambrook School in Berkshire. The Associated Press reported that his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, also attended Lambrook. The reports establish their previous school, but do not say that either sibling will attend Eton.

The 2025 coverage framed the speculation as a possible choice between Eton, where George’s father, Prince William, studied, and Marlborough College, where Catherine studied. It also noted that Marlborough is coeducational and that another school could have been chosen. The eventual Palace confirmation settled the outcome as Eton.

The same early coverage mentioned Eton’s proximity to the family’s home in Windsor as a possible practical consideration. That was context offered in reporting, not a reason confirmed by the family. The reports do not disclose why William and Catherine chose Eton.
