Presumed Innocent is returning for Season 2 with a new case, not a continuation of Rusty Sabich’s trial. Apple confirmed the renewal and new-case format; later entertainment reporting identifies Rachel Brosnahan as defense attorney Leila Reynolds and says the story is based on Jo Murray’s legal thriller Dissection of a Murder. Apple has not announced a current official premiere date in the sources available here.
What Apple has confirmed about Season 2
Apple and Warner Bros. Television announced the renewal on July 12, 2024. The official announcement says the second season will unfold around a “suspenseful, brand-new case.” It names David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Thomason, Matthew Tinker and Rachel Rusch Rich as returning executive producers, with Scott Turow as co-executive producer. Apple’s renewal announcement does not name Season 2 cast members or give a release date.
The distinction matters: the official news establishes a new case and returning production leadership, while the character and casting details below come from entertainment-industry reporting.
Who is in the reported Season 2 cast?
A March 19, 2026 report from TV Insider identifies Rachel Brosnahan as the new lead and reports an ensemble including:
#1 Best Overall
- Rachel Brosnahan
- Jack Reynor
- Matthew Rhys
- Courtney B. Vance
- John Magaro
- Michael Hsu Rosen
- Fiona Shaw
- Lesley-Ann Brandt
- Ji-young Yoo, reported in a recurring role
- Judith Light
These names have been reported by TV Insider; Apple’s renewal notice does not confirm the roster. The Apple cast page located for the series is for Season 1, so it should not be treated as an official Season 2 cast announcement: Apple TV press page.
Who does Rachel Brosnahan play?
TechRadar’s December 3, 2025 report identifies Brosnahan’s character as Leila Reynolds, a defense attorney taking on her first murder case. It reports Jack Reynor as Jack Millman, the defendant who insists Leila represent him, and Matthew Rhys as Leila’s husband, a prosecutor. The same report describes Fiona Shaw as a firm partner and second chair, and Courtney B. Vance as Leila’s boss. These character assignments are reported details, not information in Apple’s renewal announcement. Read TechRadar’s Season 2 account.
Rank #2
Jake Gyllenhaal is named as a returning executive producer in Apple’s announcement. The available reporting does not establish that he will appear as an actor in Season 2. Nor does it establish a comprehensive policy on whether other Season 1 actors might return.
What is the Season 2 story?
Apple’s confirmed description is limited to a brand-new case. Reporting says the season is expected to draw on Jo Murray’s legal thriller Dissection of a Murder, rather than Scott Turow’s original Presumed Innocent novel. TVLine reported the connection in October 2024, and later reports have continued to identify Murray’s book as the likely source. TVLine’s report summarizes the book’s premise as Leila’s first murder defense case, with her husband prosecuting.

Those details offer a story preview, but Apple has not published a Season 2 synopsis confirming them. The reported setup puts the courtroom and the marriage on opposing sides of the same case.
Season 1 adapted Turow’s novel and followed a murder that disrupted the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s Office when one of its own was suspected. Apple described that premise in its February 3, 2022 series-order announcement. It is useful context for the series, but it is not the reported Season 2 plot. Apple’s original series announcement.

No current official premiere date or trailer is established by the available sources. TechRadar said a date had not been set as of December 3, 2025; TV Insider’s March 19, 2026 report also did not provide one. Those dated reports do not prove that an announcement has not appeared since. Check Apple’s official series press page for any later announcement.

- An official Season 2 premiere date and release schedule
- A Season 2 trailer or trailer date
- An official Apple confirmation of the reported cast and character assignments
- A complete official plot synopsis
- The Season 2 episode count
- Whether any Season 1 actors will appear in the new case
Until Apple confirms those details, treat cast roles and story specifics as reported information rather than a complete official guide.
