That was a preview of selected footage, not a full synopsis of the finished film. The movie later opened in US theaters on November 7, 2025; 20th Century Studios lists it as PG-13 with a runtime of 1 hour 47 minutes.
What the CinemaCon footage showed
Cheryl Eddy’s April 3, 2025, report for Gizmodo’s io9 described footage shown during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation. Its images suggested a hostile world rather than a familiar Earthbound hunt: a lair filled with skulls, a barren landscape, and a Predator who appeared to be prey himself. The preview also showed a huge creature looming over him.
Elle Fanning’s character, Thia, tells him, “I didn’t think you survived,” and later warns, “You’re hunting something that can’t be killed.” Those lines, along with the report’s phrase “a planet of hurt,” were part of the trailer footage described at the event—not proof that the creature is literally immortal. Fanning also said her character teams up with the Predator and that audiences would see him in a new light; the report transcribed her saying, “Something unpredicented happens in this movie.” Read the April 3, 2025, io9 first-look report.
How the released film expands that premise
The finished film’s official premise centers on Dek, a young Predator—also known as a Yautja—cast out by his clan. On a remote planet, he encounters Thia, an unlikely ally, and pursues what the studio describes as the ultimate adversary. Disney identifies Thia as a stranded robot. This shifts the franchise’s usual point of view: Disney describes Badlands as the first film in the Predator universe centered on the Yautja and the first to make the Predator its protagonist and underdog. Director Dan Trachtenberg compared the relationship between his films this way: “I would say Prey is to The Terminator what Badlands is to T2.” He also called Badlands “a real, giant, visceral thrill ride” with “an enormous, heaping dose of heart and emotionality.” Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who plays Dek, explained his approach to the character: “I didn’t want to make Dek human, because he’s not human; he’s a Predator.” Both quotations appear in Disney’s feature on the film. Release and ways to watch
The US theatrical release was November 7, 2025. The studio lists a PG-13 rating and a runtime of 107 minutes. Those details apply to the US listing.

In a February 2026 announcement, Disney reported a worldwide gross of $184.5 million and called Badlands the franchise’s highest-grossing entry at that time. The same announcement reported a 95% Rotten Tomatoes Verified Hot Popcornmeter score and an 86% Certified Fresh Tomatometer critics score. These are studio-reported figures tied to that announcement, not fixed or independently verified measures of how every audience member or critic received the film. Disney also said the film drew nearly 9 million global views in its first five days on Disney+ and Hulu, and that the Predator franchise had streamed more than 300 million hours globally across those services. Those figures were reported by Disney on February 18, 2026; they describe the services and measurement period named by the studio, not total worldwide viewing across all platforms.
