The latest reported Power Rangers reboot has stalled before production: TheWrap reported on August 13, 2026, that Disney+ would not move forward with its planned live-action series and that the project would not leave development. The report attributed the decision to business-related factors, citing an unnamed source; it was not an official Disney or Hasbro announcement.
What happened to the planned Power Rangers reboot?
TheWrap reported that Disney+ had decided not to proceed with the live-action series being developed with 20th Television and Hasbro. Crucially, the project reportedly remained in development. It was not a completed season pulled from a release schedule, and no episodes had been announced as ready to air.
TheWrap attributed the decision to business-related factors, based on a source with knowledge of the matter. The report did not provide a detailed explanation, and the evidence available does not include a public Disney or Hasbro confirmation. It is therefore most accurate to describe the series as reportedly stopped in development, rather than to treat the report as an official cancellation announcement.
How the Netflix and Disney+ projects differ
These were two separate redevelopment efforts, not one series moving from one platform to another. The Netflix effort was reported stalled in 2024; a later project involving Disney+ and 20th Television was reported in 2025 and then reported stopped in 2026.

The reports do not establish a replacement screen partner or an approved next reboot project.
Why was the Disney+ series stopped?
TheWrap’s report attributed the decision to business-related factors, citing an unnamed source. It did not specify which factors drove the decision. No named Disney or Hasbro representative was quoted explaining it, so claims about budgets, creative disagreements, audience demand, or any other particular cause would go beyond what the report establishes.

What else is happening with Power Rangers?
A stalled live-action reboot does not mean the franchise has disappeared from other media or merchandise. Hasbro announced that it retained entertainment rights while granting Playmates a license for toys and related product categories; the announced distribution agreement excluded Asia. The companies’ product plans are separate from whether a new screen series is proceeding.
- In 2024, Hasbro said Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had launched the franchise in 1993 and that more than 900 episodes had aired.
- In May 2025, Hasbro announced Mighty Morphin Minute, a short-form series, and said Playmates’ Re-Ignition figures, accessories, role-play toys, and collectibles were expected to begin arriving in fall 2025. Those announcements do not confirm a new live-action reboot.
- Netflix identifies Once & Always as a 30th Anniversary Special, a separate piece of franchise content rather than either of the reboot projects.
The distinction is between entertainment rights and a toy license: merchandise activity alone is not evidence that a new television or film project has been greenlit.

How the 2017 film fits into the story
The 2017 Power Rangers film was a separate reboot attempt, not part of the Netflix or Disney+ television development cycle. TheWrap’s 2025 report described its box office as about $142 million against a budget of about $100 million, and said sequel plans were derailed. Those are approximate figures reported by TheWrap, not independently verified figures here.

- June 11, 2024: TVLine reported that the Netflix live-action series was no longer moving forward and that Hasbro was seeking a new creative direction and partner.
- March 19, 2025: TheWrap reported that Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were in talks to develop a live-action series for Disney+ and 20th Television, with Hasbro producing.

- August 13, 2026: TheWrap reported that Disney+ would not proceed with its planned series, which would not leave development.
What is confirmed—and what is not
The available reporting supports a careful conclusion: the Netflix effort stalled, and a subsequent Disney+ development project was reported stopped before leaving development. It does not establish an official public cancellation statement, a detailed reason, or a new partner for the next screen reboot. Hasbro’s entertainment rights and Playmates’ toy license explain why merchandise plans can continue independently of television development.
