Not quite in the way the headline suggests: Pornhub announced support for selected interactive sex toys on June 28, 2017, but the available reporting describes certain pre-coded videos—not a blanket upgrade that made its entire VR category interactive. Compatible toys could receive control signals synchronized to video playback. Whether that same Pornhub feature remains available today is not confirmed by a current first-party source.
What Pornhub announced in 2017
Pornhub’s 2017 announcement connected two trends in adult entertainment: virtual-reality video and internet-connected sex toys. Contemporary reporting named the Kiiroo Onyx and the Fleshlight Launch among compatible devices. Certain videos had been prepared with control data that could prompt a paired wireless toy to move in time with the scene. TechCrunch’s report of the announcement described the content as pre-coded.
That distinction matters. An ordinary video does not automatically contain commands for a toy. Nor does a video become interactive simply because it is viewed through a headset. The documented claim is narrower: Pornhub supported selected interactive content and compatible hardware. The report does not establish that every video—or the VR category as a whole—could control a toy.
VR and teledildonics are separate layers
Pornhub launched a VR category in March 2016, according to contemporary coverage. VR can make a scene feel more visually immersive, using a headset to present stereoscopic or 360-degree video. Teledildonic technology adds a separate physical-output layer: a connected device responds to digital signals.

In the broad technical sense, the 2017 feature counts as teledildonics: connected sexual hardware responding to remote content or control data. But it is more precise to describe the documented model as scripted device synchronization, not a full tactile simulation. A toy can reproduce programmed movement or vibration; it cannot thereby reproduce every sensation, force, temperature, or bodily movement shown on screen.
The layers can be combined, but they are not interchangeable:
- A VR video can play without any toy interaction.
- An interactive video can synchronize with a toy without being VR.
- A combined experience requires suitable video, a supported playback route, compatible hardware, and a control script or other synchronization method.
How a scripted experience works
The general synchronization pipeline is straightforward, though the available reporting does not document Pornhub’s exact 2017 software architecture:

- A producer prepares a video and creates a corresponding control track or script.
- A supported player, app, website, or integration delivers the video and control data.
- The user pairs a compatible device through the supported connection.
- The device translates the incoming commands into movement or another physical output as playback progresses.
Think of it as video scene → synchronization script → supported player → paired toy → physical response. The script is what connects particular moments in a video to device behavior. If there is no supported script or synchronization method, ordinary playback alone provides no such connection.
Current Kiiroo information about FeelConnect describes a similar general arrangement: the app connects compatible devices to supported interactive content, including video and VR experiences. That is useful context for how such ecosystems work now, but it is not evidence that Pornhub’s 2017 feature used FeelConnect or the same implementation.
What “interactive” does—and does not—mean
In this context, “interactive” does not necessarily mean a viewer controls a performer, changes the scene, or influences the story. It can mean that a device automatically follows a pre-authored sequence of movements. Other systems may offer partner control, live-cam control, or software that estimates device motion from video. Those are distinct approaches, with different levels of human input and different reliability.

Kiiroo’s current pages discuss interactive video, VR, partner experiences, live cams, and AI-generated synchronization as separate use cases. Its VR information also describes AI-based synchronization for some otherwise non-interactive video. That should not be confused with a creator-authored control track, and it does not establish native Pornhub support.

Why Pornhub tied the feature to VR
The appeal was the possibility of adding physical feedback to a more immersive visual format. In the 2017 coverage, a Pornhub representative cited more than one million daily views for the VR category at the time and framed the toy feature as a way to help viewers feel more present with performers. That figure was a company claim reported in 2017—not an independently audited measure or a current traffic statistic.
The pairing also reflected a broader industry experiment. In February 2016, BaDoinkVR and Kiiroo announced a VR-and-device partnership. That was a separate project, not a Pornhub partnership, but it shows that companies were exploring synchronized VR and connected toys before Pornhub’s announcement. What a compatible setup generally requires
A headset by itself cannot make a toy respond to video. A contemporary Kiiroo-style setup generally calls for a compatible device, the FeelConnect app, supported content or service, and a suitable connection such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi depending on the hardware and workflow. A headset is needed for headset-based VR viewing, but not necessarily for interactive content on a flat screen. Kiiroo says FeelConnect is available for iOS and Android and describes pairing the device and connecting to supported content as part of its setup. These are vendor instructions for its current ecosystem, not a guide to Pornhub’s 2017 rollout.
Before relying on a particular setup, check that the exact toy, app, content platform, playback method, and—if relevant—headset are supported together. Kiiroo’s current compatibility information lists examples of supported VR headsets, including Meta Quest, Pico, and HTC Vive models. Those are vendor-stated compatibility claims, not a guarantee that every player or video works on every device. A headset’s compatibility with one VR workflow does not establish compatibility with Pornhub or with a particular toy.
Common limitations and troubleshooting
- The toy pairs but does not move: The video may lack an interactive script, the playback route may not support synchronization, or the device may not be supported in that setup.
- The video plays but there is no synchronization: Ordinary playback is not the same as interactive playback. Check that the content is marked or otherwise confirmed as compatible and that it is being played through the required app or service.
- The toy moves out of sync: Network or Bluetooth delay, app conflicts, browser limits, player performance, or a poorly timed script can all affect the experience. No source here supports a promise of perfect or zero-latency synchronization.
- VR works but the toy does not: Visual headset compatibility and toy-control compatibility are separate checks.
- The app cannot find the device: Check the device’s charge, Bluetooth permissions, distance, and whether another phone or app is already connected.
- A once-mentioned product is hard to find: Hardware, names, stock, and software support change. The Onyx named in historical coverage should not be assumed to be a currently available or supported purchase.
Content availability is a structural limitation, not a minor setup detail. Native synchronization depends on someone authoring and distributing compatible control data. Different platforms may use different apps, content formats, or device protocols; “interactive” does not promise universal compatibility. AI-generated motion may broaden the range of video that can be used, but it is not equivalent to a purpose-authored script and may not follow the scene precisely.

Connected devices also introduce privacy considerations: pairing a toy with an app, account, video service, or cloud-connected feature can link sensitive activity to device or account data. Review app permissions, account security, and the provider’s privacy information. Physical-device hygiene, appropriate lubricant, charging, and safe use remain the user’s responsibility and are separate from software synchronization.
What can be said about the feature now?
Current Kiiroo materials show that connected-device ecosystems continue to support interactive video and VR synchronization, and describe AI-based options as well. They do not confirm that Pornhub still offers the same 2017 feature, supports the same products, or uses the same workflow. The defensible historical account is that Pornhub announced selected interactive-toy video support in 2017; present-day Pornhub availability should be treated as unverified unless Pornhub confirms it directly.
Bottom line: Pornhub did support interactive toys as VR porn grew, but the evidence points to selected pre-coded videos and compatible devices—not teledildonics built into every item in its VR category. VR supplied the visual immersion; a separate script, playback ecosystem, and paired hardware supplied the physical response.
