Pokémon Company International said it did not help create or distribute a U.S. Department of Homeland Security video that used Pokémon-associated imagery and language, and that it had not granted permission for the use of its intellectual property. DHS posted the video on September 22, 2025, under the caption “Gotta Catch ’Em All,” according to contemporaneous reports.

What was in the DHS video?

Contemporaneous coverage described a montage of immigration-enforcement arrests edited together with Pokémon-associated theme music and anime imagery. Reports also said the video ended with card-like depictions of people arrested. These are descriptions from news reports, not an independently preserved official transcript of every scene. TMZ’s September 2025 report and the Los Angeles Times’ coverage reported on the edit and the company’s response.

DHS’s post used the caption “Gotta Catch ’Em All,” a familiar Pokémon-associated phrase. TMZ reproduced the caption and reported the post date as September 22, 2025.

What did Pokémon Company International say?

A Pokémon Company International statement quoted by TMZ and the Los Angeles Times said: “We are aware of a recent video posted by the Department of Homeland Security that includes imagery and language associated with our brand. Our company was not involved in the creation or distribution of this content, and permission was not granted for the use of our intellectual property.”

The statement makes two points: the company said it had no role in creating or distributing the video, and said permission had not been granted to use its intellectual property. The quoted reports do not name the individual who made the statement. Pokémon Company International describes its work outside Asia as including brand management and licensing, alongside trading-card, animation, and home-entertainment activities. The company’s corporate overview outlines those responsibilities.

What the statement does—and does not—establish

The statement records the company’s position on its involvement and permission. It is not a court ruling that DHS violated a law, and the available reporting does not establish that DHS admitted wrongdoing or that Pokémon Company International sued the department.

A 2026 report revisited the September video and said the company declined to say whether it planned to take legal action. That report does not establish whether legal action followed or resolve the video’s later status. The Hollywood Reporter’s 2026 account should be read as reporting on the company’s response at that time, not as a final update on the dispute.
