For a balanced Hoenn watch list, start with “Get the Show on the Road!” and follow the picks below through Ash’s Gym challenge, May’s Coordinator path, and the region’s broader story. This is a curated recommendation, not an official or fan-vote ranking: there is no authoritative top ten. The selections favor story setup, character development, battles and contests, and variety.
What counts as a Hoenn episode?
The Pokémon Company calls this series Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire. Its core travelling group is Ash, May, Max, and Brock. May’s pursuit of Pokémon Contests as a Coordinator runs alongside Ash’s Trainer journey; the series also introduces double battles and the conflict between Team Magma and Team Aqua, with Groudon and Kyogre among its legendary Pokémon. The Pokémon Company’s series overview describes that premise.
This list means episodes set during the Hoenn portion of the journey, not every episode associated with the broader Advanced Generation era. The episode index continues beyond Hoenn to Ash’s Battle Frontier visit in Kanto. Episode titles and AG codes below follow the Ruby and Sapphire episode index.

“Get the Show on the Road!” (AG001)
The natural starting point: this episode opens Ash’s Hoenn leg and introduces the change of setting and travelling cast. Watch it first if you want the context for the journeys that follow.

“A Ruin with a View” (AG002)
An early adventure that adds a mystery-and-ancient-Pokémon flavor to the list. Its position near the start also makes it an easy companion to the series opener.

“A Poached Ego!” (AG006)
This early-run pick brings character-led variety to a list otherwise shaped by major competition milestones. It is a useful change of pace from Gym and Contest episodes.

“All Things Bright and Beautifly!” (AG013)
May’s developing Coordinator story deserves a place in any selection that aims to represent both leads. The series premise gives Contests a distinct role alongside Ash’s Trainer path, and this episode is an early marker for that thread.

A Gym-story selection that shifts the focus back to Ash’s Hoenn challenge. It helps balance May’s Contest arc with the battle progression that defines Ash’s side of the journey.

“Brave the Wave” (AG020)
Another battle-focused choice from Ash’s regional challenge. Its inclusion widens the list beyond early introductions and May’s Coordinator development.

“A Three Team Scheme!” (AG027)
The Team Magma and Team Aqua conflict is one of the series’ defining larger story threads, so a selection representing the competing villain teams belongs here. This pick signals that wider plot rather than treating the series as only a sequence of individual competitions.

A later-run character-and-battle candidate, bringing the list into the middle stretch of the Hoenn episodes. It offers a change in emphasis from the region-wide conflict and the early Gym and Contest milestones.

“At the End of the Fray” (AG130)
A fitting selection for Ash’s Hoenn League phase and a late-series destination for viewers following his battle progression. It rounds out the list with a competition-stage episode rather than another early adventure.
Where to watch the Hoenn run
Availability depends on region and changes over time. An official Pokémon YouTube result surfaced for the full first episode of Pokémon Advanced, but that is not evidence that the complete Hoenn run is available there. The official series page does not identify current streaming platforms, so check services in your region before planning a full-series watch.
For collectors, VIZ lists Pokémon: Advanced Battle – The Complete Collection in its Pokémon video TV show catalogue. The catalogue entry alone does not establish current stock, format, price, or the collection’s exact contents.
