Short answer: Pocket Casts did launch a Windows 10 application through the Microsoft Store on March 21, 2018. That historical release is not the same as current Store availability: Pocket Casts’ support documentation, checked for August 18, 2026, says the Microsoft Store version is temporarily unavailable and recommends downloading the Windows app directly instead.
What launched in 2018?
Shifty Jelly released Pocket Casts for Windows 10 through the Microsoft Store on March 21, 2018. The release gave Windows users a discoverable installation route for a service previously associated mainly with Android, iOS and the browser.
The contemporary report described an interface that closely resembled Pocket Casts’ web player. It questioned whether the package was a Progressive Web App or a hosted web application, but did not establish the implementation conclusively. Calling it a conventional native Windows application goes beyond the available evidence. Contemporary launch coverage initially questioned whether episodes could be downloaded offline, then updated the story after a download link was observed on an episode page.
Is Pocket Casts in the Microsoft Store now?
Not reliably. Pocket Casts’ current desktop-app support page says the Microsoft Store version for Windows is temporarily unavailable and directs users to the company’s direct-download Windows application. Therefore, the 2018 headline should be read as a historical announcement, not as a guarantee that a Store listing can be installed today.

What Windows users get today
Free desktop access
Pocket Casts now makes its web and desktop applications available to free-plan users. A Plus or Patron subscription is needed for selected features, including Folders, Bookmarks and cloud storage, according to Pocket Casts’ documentation.
Two Windows clients may be encountered
Pocket Casts distinguishes its current Electron desktop app from a legacy Windows app. To identify an installation, open Profile → Settings → Help → Send Feedback, enable Include debug logs, and inspect the User Agent field. A value containing PocketCasts/ followed by a version and Electron/ identifies the Electron app; an entry without Electron/ indicates the legacy Windows app. Pocket Casts explains the distinction here.

Desktop is not identical to mobile
Smart Playlists are not currently available on Pocket Casts’ web and desktop applications. Desktop views named New Releases, In Progress and Starred should not be assumed to be the mobile Smart Playlists with the same names; Pocket Casts says they work differently and may not synchronize in the same way. How to install Pocket Casts on Windows now
- Open Pocket Casts’ official desktop-app guidance or its apps area.
- Download the Windows application directly from Pocket Casts rather than assuming a Microsoft Store listing is available.
- Install it and sign in with the Pocket Casts account used on your other devices.
- Use the User Agent check described above if you need to confirm whether the installation is the Electron client or a legacy app.
- If a feature is missing, check whether it is restricted to Plus or Patron, belongs only to the mobile apps, or reflects an older Windows client.
How updates work
Pocket Casts says the web app updates automatically. Windows and macOS desktop apps are updated through their distribution channels, and updates cannot be started from inside the Pocket Casts interface. For a Store installation, Microsoft Store handles updates. For the direct-download Windows app, Pocket Casts says the application checks for a new version and prompts for installation when one is available; press Alt to reveal the Windows app’s Pocket Casts menu. Because the Store version is currently documented as temporarily unavailable, do not assume every Windows installation uses the same update path. How Pocket Casts’ pricing changed
The 2018 report described Pocket Casts as a paid product and mentioned a separately purchased web version priced at $9. That was the old business model, not current pricing.
On September 18, 2019, Pocket Casts made its mobile apps free and introduced Pocket Casts Plus for premium capabilities, initially including desktop access. The company later made web and desktop apps available to free users while keeping selected organization and storage features behind Plus or Patron. What happens to older purchases?
- A web or desktop purchase made before September 18, 2019 qualifies for lifetime Pocket Casts Plus access under the company’s policy.
- A pre-September 18, 2019 Android or iOS purchase does not qualify for lifetime Plus.
- Previously purchased mobile features remain accessible under Pocket Casts’ stated policy.

Useful edge cases
The Store listing is missing
Use Pocket Casts’ direct Windows download. The company’s support page specifically recommends that route while the Store version is temporarily unavailable.
A feature vanished after cancellation
Pocket Casts says a cancelled subscription converts the account to a regular free sync account. Subscription-dependent features may disappear while cancelled and should return if Plus is reactivated. Subscription-change guidance covers this behavior.
You expect mobile Smart Playlists
Different desktop views are not necessarily a sync failure. Pocket Casts says desktop and web views such as New Releases, In Progress and Starred do not operate as the mobile Smart Playlists.
You want to change billing stores
Apple App Store and Google Play subscriptions cannot be transferred directly between platforms. Pocket Casts says the existing subscription must end before switching stores. See the subscription instructions.

The practical conclusion is straightforward: Pocket Casts genuinely came to the Microsoft Store in 2018, but Windows users in 2026 should install the current desktop app directly from Pocket Casts, not rely on the old Store announcement. The desktop app is free to access, while advanced organization and storage features remain part of Plus or Patron.
