Yes—Pluto TV is officially available in Canada, but it did not newly launch in August 2026. Pluto TV debuted in Canada on December 1, 2022, as a free, ad-supported service with live-style channels and on-demand movies and shows. The service is a practical way to watch without a monthly subscription, provided you accept advertising, regional catalogues and changing schedules.
Is Pluto TV available in Canada?
Yes. Pluto TV launched in Canada on December 1, 2022, through a partnership involving Pluto TV, Paramount Global and Corus Entertainment. The launch announcement described more than 110 channels and over 20,000 hours of programming at that time (Newswire, December 1, 2022).
Therefore, headlines saying Pluto TV is “now available” are outdated unless they refer to a particular app update, platform expansion or new Canadian programming announcement.

The core service has no normal monthly subscription charge. Advertising funds the service, so “free” does not mean commercial-free, ad-free or permanent access to every title. Pluto’s Canadian App Store listing says a credit card is not required (Canadian App Store listing). Pluto also invites users to create an account for features such as personalization and a kid-friendly space; basic viewing should not be described as requiring registration in every situation.
What can Canadians watch?
Programming varies by rights and location, so a U.S. channel guide is not a reliable Canadian catalogue. Categories available through Pluto’s Canadian service include:

| Platform | Canadian guidance |
|---|---|
| Web browsers | Pluto lists browser viewing. |
| iPhone and iPad | Listed in the Canadian App Store. |
| Apple TV | Listed in the Canadian App Store; the Canadian tvOS listing specifies tvOS 16.0 or later for that listing (tvOS listing). |
| Android devices | Pluto lists Android mobile, Android TV and Google TV support. |
| Roku and Amazon Fire TV | Appear in Pluto’s platform materials; check your exact Canadian model. |
| Samsung, LG and Hisense smart TVs | Listed on Pluto’s device pages, subject to regional and model availability. |
| Windows desktop | Pluto lists desktop access in its platform information. |
Use Pluto’s Where to Watch pages and its authorized-platform documentation for the current device list. That documentation contains region-specific exceptions, including entries marked U.S.-only, so a platform appearing on a global page is not proof of Canadian support.

The app cannot be found
- Set the device’s country or region to Canada.
- Update the operating system and app-store software.
- Search the official store for “Pluto TV,” including alternate language display names.
- Check Pluto’s current Where to Watch page.
- Try the official website in a supported browser before buying another device.
It works on a phone but not on the TV
Mobile and television support are not identical. Use the official TV app if available, a supported streaming device or the web version on a computer. Mobile playback does not by itself prove that casting or a particular television model is supported.
A title or channel disappears
That is normal for a licensed, ad-supported catalogue. Search Pluto again rather than assuming a title will remain available.
Pluto TV compared with other free options
| Service | Best suited to | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Pluto TV | Channel surfing plus on-demand browsing | Strongest live-channel and scheduled-TV experience; ad-supported. |
| Tubi | Choosing individual movies and shows | More naturally organized around an on-demand catalogue; Tubi documents Canadian support for web, mobile, smart TVs, consoles and selected Canadian providers (Tubi help centre). |
| CBC Gem | Canadian public-broadcaster programming | Useful for CBC television, news and documentaries; check current account and premium-feature details at CBC Gem. |
| YouTube | Official news streams, creator programming and selected licensed films | Not a single curated FAST channel guide; availability depends on each rights holder. |
| Paid services | Newer releases, exclusives or ad-free viewing | Crave, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Paramount+ require payment and are not free substitutes. |
Advantages and limitations
Why it may fit
- No monthly subscription for the core service.
- Live-style channels are convenient when you do not want to choose a title.
- On-demand films and shows are available in the same app.
- Common streaming platforms and French-language programming are supported in the Canadian offering.
- It provides an official alternative to unauthorized streaming websites.
Why it may not
- Commercial breaks interrupt viewing.
- Linear channels follow a schedule you do not control.
- Canadian rights differ from U.S. rights, and catalogues change.
- “Hundreds of channels” does not mean hundreds of premium or first-run channels.
- Device support can be regional, and a specific title is never guaranteed.
- It is not a replacement for a paid service when you need current subscription-exclusive shows or a dedicated live-sports package.
Bottom line
Pluto TV is legitimate and available in Canada, but the accurate date is December 1, 2022—not a new 2026 launch. Try the website or mobile app first, then install the official TV app if your Canadian device store offers it. Pluto is best for viewers who value zero monthly cost, accept advertising and enjoy a mix of scheduled channels and on-demand browsing.
