It premiered on May 31, 2022, so it is not premiering tomorrow. The series is based on Jones’s memoir, rather than presented as a documentary.
What is Pistol about?
FX’s limited series follows the Sex Pistols’ rise and breakdown through the perspective of founding guitarist Steve Jones. The show was created and written by Craig Pearce, directed and executive produced by Danny Boyle, and produced by FX Productions. It is based on Jones’s 2017 memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol. Disney’s announcement gives the production details; FX’s series page has episode summaries and a music section with an episode playlist.
The episode descriptions trace Jones’s beginnings with the band, Johnny Rotten’s arrival, the group’s growing attention, Glen Matlock’s departure and Sid Vicious’s arrival, and the band’s eventual collapse. These are the series’ own summaries of its dramatized story, not independent verification of every event shown.
Who is in the cast?
Disney’s announcement lists the principal cast and roles. FX’s cast page identifies John Lydon by the name Johnny Rotten.

Those pages document the announced distribution, not a live catalog check for October 2026. Streaming rights and catalogs can change, so check the service available in your country for current access before following an old platform announcement.
Is Pistol based on a true story?
The series is based on Steve Jones’s memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, and dramatizes the band’s story. That makes it a memoir-based drama, not a documentary. A memoir offers its author’s perspective; it should not be treated as a neutral or independently reported history of the group.

What book is Pistol based on?
The source is Jones’s Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, published in 2017, according to Disney’s announcement. It is the most direct further reading for viewers who want Jones’s own account. Its connection to the series is clear, but that perspective is not the same as an independent band history.
