Zach and Zoe’s Hide and Sneeze is a sponsored children’s book created by writer and presenter Phoebe Burgess in collaboration with Zyrtec and illustrated by Simon Greiner. Its hide-and-seek story introduces children to hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, but it is an awareness tool—not a way to diagnose symptoms. The official campaign page offers a downloadable ebook; its listed print promotion ended in 2025, and current print availability is not established.

What is Zach and Zoe’s Hide and Sneeze?

The book follows siblings Zach and Zoe playing hide and seek. When Zach develops watery eyes and starts crying, Zoe finds him more easily. The story uses a familiar family game to introduce symptoms associated with hay fever.

The official ebook credits Simon Greiner as illustrator and describes the book as sponsored by Zyrtec in collaboration with Phoebe Burgess. Its foreword describes Burgess as a writer, journalist and presenter, and says her experience parenting two children with hay fever inspired the book. Burgess writes: “Knowing these symptoms were caused by hayfever and allergies eases that stress for me.” That is her personal account, not medical evidence.

Where can you get the book?

Zyrtec Australia’s campaign page provides a downloadable ebook. It also records a past offer for printed copies: a free gift with purchase at Chemist Warehouse, Terry White Chemmart and participating independent pharmacies from 1 September to 30 November 2025, or while stocks lasted. Those dates have passed; the page does not establish whether printed copies are now available. Check the Zyrtec Australia campaign page for the ebook and the offer details.

The campaign page also says 80,000 free print copies were distributed in the 2024 campaign. This is a figure given by Zyrtec, not evidence of current stock. Zyrtec Australia’s campaign materials describe the distribution.

What signs of hay fever can children have?

Allergic rhinitis occurs when the nose or eyes react to environmental allergens. ASCIA lists pollens, dust mites, moulds and animal dander among possible triggers. Symptoms can include sneezing; an itchy, runny or blocked nose; watery, itchy eyes; and throat symptoms. They may occur in particular seasons or persist throughout the year. ASCIA’s allergic rhinitis FAQ explains common triggers and symptoms.

Symptoms can resemble a cold or flu, but allergic rhinitis and respiratory infections are different conditions and may need different care. The story can help families find words for symptoms; it cannot tell whether a particular child has an allergy.

Can allergies look like a cold?

Yes. Sneezing and a runny or blocked nose can occur with both allergic rhinitis and respiratory infections, so symptoms alone may not make the cause clear. It is useful to note whether symptoms recur around a particular season or exposure, but that pattern is not a diagnosis. ASCIA notes the potential for confusion with respiratory infections. Read ASCIA’s guidance.

What should caregivers know about treatment?

Treatment depends on the person and symptoms. Healthdirect describes options that may include antihistamines, corticosteroid nasal sprays and saltwater sprays, with immunotherapy used in some cases. These general options are not an individualized recommendation for a child. Talk with a doctor if symptoms suggest pollen allergy or medicine is not working; a pharmacist or doctor can also help caregivers understand appropriate products and directions. Healthdirect’s pollen allergy guidance covers symptoms and treatment options.

How common is allergic rhinitis?

ASCIA’s patient FAQ says around 18% of people in Australia and New Zealand—children and adults—have allergic rhinitis. Separately, ASCIA’s clinical update reports that 23.9% of Australians self-reported allergic rhinitis in the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ National Health Survey 2023. These figures use different sources and populations; neither is a children-only estimate. ASCIA’s FAQ and 2024 clinical update provide the respective figures.

A separate national survey of 1,000 parents commissioned by Zyrtec found nearly six in 10 were unaware of allergic rhinitis, while two-thirds said they had taken a child out of school or daycare because of symptoms they attributed to the condition. PerthNow reported those sponsor-commissioned results in August 2024; they are not independent estimates of allergy prevalence. Read the report.

Why is the book sponsored?

This is branded educational content from Zyrtec, a maker of allergy medicines, rather than independent clinical guidance. Kenvue Australia self-care business unit director Oliver Wright described the campaign’s aim as addressing parents’ awareness of allergic rhinitis and possible symptom confusion. That statement explains the company’s stated intent; it is not evidence that the book improves diagnosis or health outcomes. Mediaweek reported the campaign statement on 20 August 2024.
