Former Crowded House drummer Peter Jones died on 18 May 2012, according to contemporary reports, which said he was 45. The age is not settled: later biographical dates imply he was 49, but those dates have not been authoritatively confirmed.
What was reported about Peter Jones’s death
ABC News, carrying an Australian Associated Press report on 20 May 2012, said Jones had died after suffering from brain cancer. The report attributed that cause to reports rather than citing a family or medical statement. Read the ABC News report.
ITV News also reported on 20 May that Jones had died on 18 May, saying reports suggested he had been suffering from brain cancer. Its article reproduced a tribute attributed to Crowded House’s website: “We remember him as a warm hearted, funny and talented man, who was a valuable member of Crowded House. He played with style and spirit.” Read ITV News’s report.
Why reports called him 45—and why the age is disputed
Both contemporary reports gave Jones’s age as 45. A later biographical listing gives his birth date as 21 April 1963 and his death date as 18 May 2012, dates that would make him 49. That listing is not primary confirmation, and the available sources do not resolve the discrepancy. The most precise account is therefore that contemporary reports said he was 45, while later listed dates imply 49.
