Peter Alexander announced on March 28, 2026, that he is leaving NBC News after 22 years. He made the announcement on Saturday TODAY, where he had been a co-host since 2018, and said he wanted a better balance between work and family. The Los Angeles Times reported that he was expected to join MS NOW; Alexander did not announce that next role during his farewell.
Why is Peter Alexander leaving NBC News?
Alexander said he wanted to spend more time with his family and improve the balance between his personal and professional life. He explained that living in Washington while working in New York meant frequent time away from home.
During his March 28 farewell, Alexander said he had been away from home for more than 80 nights in the previous seven months and had spent more than 200 Friday nights away in seven years. Those are figures Alexander gave on air, as transcribed by TVLine, not independently audited totals.
He also said he wanted to make the most of a limited window before his daughters lost interest in spending time with him, and to challenge himself with something new.
