His mother, Mona Best, opened the Casbah Coffee Club in the cellar of the family home. It became an early venue associated with the Beatles’ Liverpool beginnings. After leaving the group, Best continued with other bands, later took a 20-year break from live performance, and formed the Pete Best Band with his brother in 1988.
