PerthNow reported on 11 October 2024 that an unnamed radio caller recalled her husband’s aunt having a panic attack and an asthma attack while watching The Godfather in a Perth cinema, then “literally passed away.” The account is the caller’s recollection as relayed by PerthNow; the report does not independently establish the death, its cause, when it happened or which cinema was involved.
What the caller said happened
According to PerthNow’s report, the caller was responding to a question on the Nathan, Nat and Shaun radio show about whether a movie had physically or psychologically traumatised listeners. She said her husband’s aunt suffered a panic attack and an asthma attack during a screening of The Godfather and died in the cinema. PerthNow quoted her saying: “She had a panic attack, an asthma attack, and literally passed away in the cinema.” PerthNow’s report

That wording describes what the caller said on air. The account available in the report does not identify the woman, provide a date or location beyond Perth, or independently confirm the death or its cause.
The horse-head scene and the cinema remain uncertain
The caller associated the story with the film’s scene in which a horse’s head is found in a bed. She recalled: “It was many years ago when The Godfather was out … and there’s a scene where there’s a horse head in a bed.” The scene is part of the film’s story, but the caller did not say that it medically caused the reported episode. She could not recall which cinema it was, suggesting it might have been either the Royal or the Picadilly. Neither venue can be identified as the location from the account.
Why The Godfather was discussed with Terrifier 3
PerthNow placed the call in a radio segment prompted by discussion of the horror film Terrifier 3, after two Perth moviegoers fainted while watching it. The connection was the hosts’ question about movie trauma; the caller’s anecdote concerned The Godfather, not Terrifier 3. PerthNow’s report
