Their Suzuki Swift remark was a joke, not a car recommendation; the reaction reported at the time came from selected commenters, not a poll of public opinion.
What were the Edmonds twins’ icks?
PerthNow reported on 8 March 2023 that the brothers had named several things they found off-putting in women they might date. The list included driving a ute such as a Toyota HiLux, being taller than them, disliking animals, smelling bad, being too loud, wearing too much make-up, and smoking. These are preferences attributed to the twins by the newspaper, not a general account of what men find attractive.
Their vehicle gag was summed up in the line: “The moral of the story is just to drive a f***king Suzuki Swift — that’s hot, turn-on.” It was delivered as a joke in the videos, rather than serious advice about what car women should drive.
Why did the list spark outrage?
The reported list singled out ordinary choices and traits—such as height, make-up, and vehicle type—as reasons for a dating turn-off. PerthNow quoted critical reactions, including comments from ute and 4WD drivers. Those examples show that some readers objected, but they do not measure how widely the response was shared or represent a systematic survey.
#1 Best Overall
PerthNow said the videos had nearly one million views combined and that the twins had more than 140,000 TikTok followers at the time of publication. Those are figures reported by the newspaper in March 2023; they are not independently verified current view or follower counts.
What did the twins say they liked?
PerthNow also reported that the brothers said they appreciated compliments about being funny, their eyes, hair, style, and smell, as well as compliments that made someone feel safe. The report presented these as the twins’ stated preferences, alongside their list of turn-offs.

How should an “ick” be weighed against compatibility?
An ABC triple j explainer published in April 2022 describes an “ick” as a sharp turn-off response and situates the term in the wider dating and social-media conversation. In that feature, psychology lecturer Dr Raquel Peel cautioned against treating every superficial reaction as decisive. She said fashion or dancing need not prevent a relationship, while values, life goals, communication, respect, and conflict resolution matter more when assessing compatibility.
Peel put it this way: “I think we do need to give each other more of a chance for a real relationship if that’s what we’re aiming for.” Her comments provide general relationship context; they do not establish what the Edmonds twins intended by their videos.
