What happened at Ronald McDonald House?
On the Tuesday before PerthNow’s report was published on 16 September 2025, families at the Ronald McDonald House facility in Nedlands were invited to preview the showbags. The event gave children a chance to experience some of the Perth Royal Show while staying close to family during medical circumstances.
Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia chief executive Robyn Sermon described the families’ role this way: “We’ve given the families of Ronald McDonald House WA’s most favourite job, testing the 2025 showbags,” Ms Sermon said.
Families quoted by PerthNow said the visit offered a welcome break. Ayla Wheeler, mother of twins Rosalie and Cassandra, said: “We have never been able to make the Royal Show, but at least they get to experience it here,” Ms Wheeler said. Casey Eddy, father of Zarlia and Alaska, said: “It is absolutely magical because we don’t have the opportunity to go to the show,” he said. Ronald McDonald House Charities chief executive Peter King said: “This is about creating some normality for those families,” he said.
