Visit Fremantle lists the café at 135 High Street Mall and reports daily hours of 7am–3pm; check the venue’s current name, opening hours and menu before setting out, as available listings may be out of date.
What is Elske in Fremantle like for brunch?
The venue is described as serving a creative all-day menu inspired by Scandinavia and Northern Europe, alongside familiar brunch favourites and smørrebrød, the open-faced sandwiches associated with Danish food. Visit Fremantle also notes house-cured gravad lax and Danish classics, and lists the café as fully licensed. That mix makes it a distinctive option for a Fremantle breakfast or brunch if you want more than a standard café menu.
Sean Marshall and Kristina Jensen are identified by Visit Fremantle as the culinary pair behind the venue. The listing also says they previously transformed Cambridge Corner Store in Wembley.
What dishes have been reported?
In a January 2025 review, PerthNow’s Kate Emery described a menu that included these dishes. They are examples from her visit, not a guarantee of what is available today.

- Brioche French toast: served with roast rhubarb, strawberries, elderflower, syrup, mascarpone and haloumi.
- Hash brown Benny: reported with spinach and poached eggs.
- Scandi breakfast plate: included Danish rye and a soft-boiled egg; Visit Fremantle also describes house-cured gravad lax as part of the venue’s food offering.
- Smørrebrød and salads: Emery reported these were available after noon.
Emery praised the French toast and hash brown Benny and gave the café 17/20 in her review. That is her assessment of her visit, not an overall or independently verified rating.
Where is Elske, and when is it open?
Visit Fremantle lists the café at 135 High Street Mall, Fremantle WA 6160, and gives its hours as Monday to Sunday, 7am–3pm. The January 2025 PerthNow review reported the same hours. Since opening times can change, confirm them directly with the venue before travelling.

There is a naming inconsistency in available listings: the requested name is Elske, while Visit Fremantle’s listing heading and a later basic venue website use “Elsa.” Confirm the venue’s current branding before relying on a search or map listing.
What to know before you go
- Menu: Treat published dish descriptions as snapshots rather than a current menu; seasonal items and availability may change.
- Prices: An older indexed menu PDF lists prices, but it is not a reliable guide to current costs. Check with the café for up-to-date menu and pricing.
- Bookings: The available information does not establish current booking arrangements, so contact the venue if you need to reserve.
- Coffee and tea: Opening-period coverage named Grand Central as the coffee roaster, while the 2025 review named Serenitea for tea. These are historical supplier details and may have changed.
Why the menu stands out
The appeal is the contrast between recognisable brunch formats—French toast and a Benedict-style dish—and Northern European touches such as Danish rye, gravlax and smørrebrød. In an opening-period Broadsheet report, Sean Marshall said: “At the moment, we can’t keep up with the hash brown benny orders and the Scandi breakfast plate has also become popular since opening.” That comment reflects the venue’s early period, not current demand.
