The song has returned in the sequel, Freakier Friday, in a new recording by Pink Slip and Christina Vidal Mitchell. Renewed TikTok attention and a reunion with Lash members at the sequel’s Sydney premiere have put the original band back in the conversation.
Who sang “Take Me Away” in Freaky Friday?
Lash, an Australian band formed in Perth, wrote and performed the original “Take Me Away.” The song was the band’s debut single and received an ARIA nomination, according to ABC News. The film’s version was presented as a performance by Pink Slip, a fictional band created for Freaky Friday.

ABC News names Jessicca Bennett, Belinda-Lee Reid, Jaclyn Pearson, Micaela Slayford, Andrew Klippel and Barry Palmer among the songwriters credited for the track. The song’s identity in the film and its origin are therefore distinct: Pink Slip is the on-screen act, while Lash is the real band behind the original.
What changed in Freakier Friday?
Freakier Friday brings Pink Slip and “Take Me Away” back, this time in a new soundtrack recording performed by Pink Slip and Christina Vidal Mitchell. Disney’s soundtrack announcement credits Suzy Shinn as producer of that recording. It was released by Hollywood Records on August 1, 2025. Those credits describe the sequel version; they do not change Lash’s role as the original performers and songwriters.

Why is Lash back on the radar?
ABC News reported renewed TikTok attention for “Take Me Away” and spoke with Bennett and Reid at the sequel’s Sydney premiere. The report gives no stream count, sales figure or TikTok metric, so the resurgence is best understood as a reported revival of attention, not a quantified viral milestone.
The premiere also brought two members of the original band into the sequel’s public conversation. Bennett told ABC News, “We’re very honoured to be a part of it and 22 years later, a part of it once more,” Reid described the song’s lasting teenage appeal as “teenagers will be teenagers,” and added, “But it doesn’t mean it’s the end of Lash.” Reid said the band had effectively retired and put away its guitars, but her comment leaves open the possibility of more from Lash rather than announcing a reunion or new release.
