On March 13, 2024, Bhojpuri singer and actor Pawan Singh said he would contest elections, ten days after withdrawing from the BJP’s Asansol candidacy. He did not name a party or constituency in that announcement. He later ran as an independent from Karakat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election; his separate October 2025 statement was about the Bihar assembly election.
What Pawan Singh announced in March 2024
The BJP named Singh as its candidate for Asansol, West Bengal, in its first list of Lok Sabha candidates on March 2, 2024. The following day, Singh withdrew. In a public post, he thanked the BJP leadership and said that “due to some reason” he would not be able to contest from Asansol, without publicly explaining what that reason was. The Indian Express reported the withdrawal and announcement.
On March 13, Singh posted that he would contest elections to fulfil a promise to his community, people and mother. The announcement did not identify an election, party or seat. Scroll noted that the party and constituency were unclear. The Indian Express quoted an English rendering of his post as: “I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to my society, people, people and mother. Your blessings and cooperation are expected.” Translation wording varies across reports, so the repeated “people” in that version should not be silently edited into a direct quotation.
Why did he withdraw from Asansol?
Singh’s March 3 post gave only the phrase “due to some reason.” Contemporary coverage described the backdrop: Trinamool Congress leaders had criticized some of his songs and music videos, alleging derogatory remarks about Bengali women. That criticism was reported context around the withdrawal, not a reason Singh himself stated in his post. Hindustan Times covered the episode and the criticism.

Where he eventually contested
Later in 2024, Singh contested the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Karakat, Bihar, and lost. An October 2025 Indian Express report said he polled over 2.74 lakh votes; that is the newspaper’s reported figure, not an official result independently confirmed here. What he said about the 2025 Bihar assembly election
In October 2025, amid speculation about the Bihar assembly election, Singh said he had not joined the BJP to contest that election and did not intend to run. The Indian Express quoted him as saying: “I, Pawan Singh, want to inform my Bhojpuri community that I did not join the party to contest the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, nor do I intend to contest the assembly elections. I am a true soldier of the party and will remain one.” The report covers that later clarification.

That 2025 statement concerns a different election from his March 2024 announcement and subsequent Lok Sabha candidacy. The chronology is straightforward: he withdrew from Asansol, said he would contest without naming a seat, then ran independently from Karakat; in 2025, he said he did not plan to contest Bihar’s assembly election.
