The update, reported by People on July 6, 2025, came nearly two months after the five girls and four boys celebrated their fourth birthday.
Who are the parents and children?
Halima Cissé and Abdelkader Arby are the parents of the nonuplets, who were born in Casablanca, Morocco, and later returned with their family to Mali. The parents shared the photographs through the Les Nonuples Instagram account; People credited the images to Les Nonuples/Instagram.
The five girls are Kadidia, Fatouma, Hawa, Adama and Oumou. The four boys are Mohammed VI, Oumar, Elhadji and Bah. The family also has an older daughter. People calls her Souda and described her as two years older than the nonuplets, while Guinness World Records used the name Arby in a May 2025 story and said she was six then. The coverage does not resolve the difference, so the names should not be treated as interchangeable.
What do the rare photos show?
The 2025 posts include images from several points in the children’s early lives, including photographs from soon after their birth and a pregnancy portrait of Halima. Guinness World Records reproduced the parents’ caption describing “rare images of our treasures just after they were born, in their tiny hatches,” alongside a photo of their mother during the pregnancy.

Another caption shared by the parents reflected on the family’s experience: “A miracle of life, incredible strength, immense love. We are filled with gratitude for how far we have come and for all the support we have received since the very beginning. Thank you to everyone who has been with us since day 1.” These are caption words reproduced by Guinness, rather than remarks from a separately reported interview.
When were the nonuplets born?
The children were born by premature C-section on May 4, 2021, at 30 weeks’ gestation. Guinness World Records reported birthweights ranging from 1.1 to 2.2 pounds (0.5 to 1 kilogram). The parents initially expected seven babies, according to Abdelkader Arby, who told Guinness: “We started with seven, and Allah blessed us with nine.”

Guinness reported in May 2025 that the children had returned home to Mali at 19 months old after living in a specially equipped flat with nurses available. That is historical context, not a description of the family’s circumstances today.
What record do the children hold?
Guinness World Records identifies the children as the first known nonuplets to survive birth and records them under “most children delivered at a single birth to survive.” That survival distinction matters: Guinness says the overall record for the most children delivered at one birth is shared with the nine babies born to Geraldine Brodrick in 1971, none of whom survived.

“First known” is Guinness’s specific record wording. It describes documented surviving nonuplets, rather than proving that no other nine-baby births have ever occurred.

The nonuplets turned four in May 2025. In a birthday story published May 2, Guinness reported that the parents planned a large celebration. Halima said: “For their 4th birthday, we decided to celebrate in a grandiose way, as a celebrity would!”
