Paramount Television Studios (PTVS) did close in August 2024 as part of a company restructuring, but it did not disappear permanently. Paramount later re-formed a studio under the PTVS name, and Skydance’s current company page lists it as an active production studio. The headline describes the 2024 shutdown, not the studio’s present status.
What happened to Paramount Television Studios in 2024?
On August 13, 2024, Paramount announced that the then-existing PTVS unit would cease operations at the end of that week. CBS Studios was assigned responsibility for PTVS’s existing shows and development projects, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The shows associated with PTVS included Reacher, The Spiderwick Chronicles, 13 Reasons Why and Station Eleven. The titles had connections to different streaming partners; the studio’s closure did not mean all of them were being canceled.
Why did Paramount shut it down?
Paramount co-CEO George Cheeks told staff the decision was not based on PTVS’s performance. He attributed it to significant changes in the television and streaming marketplace and the need to streamline the company. That is management’s stated rationale, rather than an independently established finding about the studio’s finances.

The shutdown came amid a broader cost-reduction plan. The Los Angeles Times reported that Paramount planned to reduce its U.S.-based workforce by 15% and target $500 million in annual savings. Separately, it reported that as many as 30 people were expected to leave in connection with the PTVS closure. The 15% and $500 million figures described the company-wide plan, not a PTVS-specific budget cut.
How did Paramount Television Studios return?
Paramount later revived the studio as part of its post-merger organization. In a 2025 investor communication, the company said it combined Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, Nickelodeon Live Action and Skydance Television “to form the revitalized Paramount Television Studios.” That describes a re-formed organization, not simply the uninterrupted continuation of the unit that closed in 2024.

Is Paramount Television Studios active now?
Skydance’s current brand page describes PTVS as a content studio developing and producing television across platforms. Its company-listed slate includes shows for Paramount+, CBS, Prime Video, Apple TV and Netflix, including Reacher, Foundation and Emily in Paris. This is the company’s own description and listing, not an independent assessment of the studio or its productions.
The distinction matters: the original unit ceased operations in 2024 and its slate moved to CBS Studios; a later corporate reorganization brought together other production groups under the PTVS name. Its current existence is therefore separate from whether a particular show airs on a Paramount service.
