The central question is whether the comedy and love story make those regional differences feel specific—or rely on familiar shorthand.

In Nandini Ramnath’s account for Scroll, Delhi entrepreneur Param is persuaded to invest in a dating app, which matches him with Sundari, who runs a homestay near Alappuzha. Their relationship develops amid family opposition and another suitor. The app supplies the plot’s modern mechanism; the romance draws on the familiar idea that a meeting between North and South can generate both attraction and comic friction. Does the Kerala setting make the romance more than a travel postcard?
Kerala is not just a backdrop in the film’s premise: its regional identity is part of how the couple meet, how their relationship is tested and how the comedy is framed. That makes cultural representation a fair measure of the film, not an extra demand imposed on a light romantic comedy.

Shubhra Gupta’s Indian Express review points to the film’s use of Onam, clothing, cultural references and a boat race, arguing that it leans on regional shorthand and familiar Bollywood tropes. THR India’s review summary similarly criticizes stereotyping and a lack of representational sensitivity. These are the critics’ interpretations of the film, not a definitive account of Kerala or its people. The distinction matters: showing recognizable cultural markers is not the same as giving characters and traditions depth beyond their usefulness as comic or romantic cues. Scroll’s headline, “‘Param Sundari’ review: Kerala survives the invasion of the northerners”, is a pointed critical framing, not a literal claim about Kerala. Read that way, it captures the tension in a romance that uses a North–South pairing as both its hook and its source of jokes. The film’s scenic appeal may establish a sense of place, but it cannot by itself answer whether the people and cultural details feel fully realized.

Do the romance and comedy work?
Gupta’s main objection is that the film takes too long to find its romantic and comic energy. She rated it 1.5 out of 5, concluding: “You do end up smiling, but it’s too little, too late.” The line sums up a response in which occasional charm does not compensate for problems with writing and pace.
THR India’s summary also finds fault with the plotting, alongside its concerns about representation, while recognizing the Kerala scenery and Sachin–Jigar soundtrack as strengths. Together, the reviews suggest a split between the film’s sensory attractions and the execution of its story: the locations and music can contribute pleasure even where the jokes, romance or character work do not land consistently.
