Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In Michel Ghanem’s January 24, 2025 review for TheWrap, Paradise earns praise for Sterling K. Brown’s performance and its strongest emotional moments, but its blend of murder mystery, conspiracy and science fiction does not always feel distinctive. It is a qualified recommendation: compelling enough to tune in for the cast and occasional high-concept thrills, though not a genre standout.
What is Hulu’s Paradise about?
Brown plays Xavier Collins, a Secret Service agent investigating the murder of President Cal Bradford, played by James Marsden, in an apparently ideal community. The story unfolds through character backstories and flashbacks, gradually revealing the relationships and mysteries beneath the surface. The series expands from its murder investigation into science-fiction and political territory; this spoiler-light description avoids the first-episode twist.

Paradise is an original story rather than an adaptation of a book, according to Hulu’s series guide.
What does TheWrap’s review think of the performances?
Ghanem’s review treats the acting as the show’s clearest strength. Brown anchors the series as Xavier, whose vigilance gives him a different energy from the roles audiences may know him for. Brown said the part appealed to him partly because it let him work with This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman again while playing a character distinct from Randall: “I loved that the character was very different than Randall or anything that I had done and that people had seen me do before.”
#1 Best Overall
The praise is not limited to Brown. The review also highlights Julianne Nicholson and Marsden, and finds the cast especially effective when the series turns to family grief and personal relationships. That emotional work gives the thriller moments of real weight, even as some supporting characters receive less depth than others. Brown is also an executive producer.
Where does the thriller fall short?
TheWrap describes the pilot as propulsive and appreciates the contrast between the murder case and the shared history of Xavier and the president. Its reservation is that Paradise juggles several familiar modes—mystery, conspiracy and high-concept science fiction—without always making their combination feel fresh. The result can be entertaining and emotionally engaging without becoming a standout in any one genre.
Rank #2
That balance matters for viewers drawn to Fogelman by This Is Us. Paradise retains a focus on character history and relationships, but it is not simply another family drama: the murder investigation and shifting speculative premise are central to its identity. Brown has described Xavier’s constant alertness as a distinct challenge: “Playing someone who’s constantly on guard is a different energy than anybody else I played before.”
How does the show connect its fictional world to real politics?
The series uses its fictional setting to raise questions about power, wealth and who is protected in a crisis. Brown has said that the show’s invented world offers room to consider the relationship between political agendas and wealthy influence, while emphasizing that the story itself is fictional. Creator Dan Fogelman also described consulting a sociologist on the city’s imagined government and rule of law. These are themes within a scripted thriller, not factual reporting about a real community or event.

How many seasons of Paradise are available?
As of October 8, 2026, Hulu’s U.S. guide lists Season 2 as having premiered on February 23, 2026. Its first three episodes arrived together, followed by weekly episodes, for eight episodes total. Hulu is the U.S. streaming destination identified by the official Hulu guide. Disney announced a third-season renewal on March 18, 2026, in its renewal announcement. The current Season 2 setup follows Xavier searching for Teri outside the bunker as new secrets about Paradise’s origins emerge.
In that same March 2026 announcement, Disney reported more than 30 million viewing hours for Season 2 at the time of the announcement, nearly 12 billion minutes viewed worldwide across the first two seasons, and 25 million additional Season 1 viewing hours associated with Season 2’s release. These are company-reported figures, not independently audited measurements. The announcement also noted four Emmy nominations for Season 1, including drama series and acting nominations for Brown, Marsden and Nicholson.
