McDonald’s Japan confirmed a Pokémon Happy Set promotion beginning August 9, 2024, at participating locations across Japan, with some stores excluded. It featured eight toys across two waves and a separate Pokémon Frienda Pick giveaway on August 17–18. This was a Japan promotion—not a U.S. Pokémon Happy Meal release.
When and where was the Pokémon Happy Set available?
McDonald’s Japan announced the promotion on August 2, 2024. Sales were scheduled to start Friday, August 9, at participating locations nationwide, excluding some stores, and were to continue for a limited time. The announcement did not give a fixed end date or guarantee that every location would have every toy. McDonald’s Japan’s August 2 announcement is the primary source for the schedule and offer details.
Which toys were included?
The eight toys were divided into two waves of four. McDonald’s described the lineup as themed around outdoor play; some items could also be used in the bath, pool, or indoors. The examples below reflect the company’s descriptions, not independent product testing.
First wave
- Captain Pikachu waterwheel
- Poké Ball watering can
- Sprigatito shovel-and-scoop kit
- Fuecoco flying disc
Second wave
- Quaxly water gun
- Sprigatito telescope
- Captain Pikachu roller
- Poké Ball compass
The announced play activities included moving water, spraying water, viewing distant objects, making patterns in sand or clay, flying a disc in an open area, and finding directions with a compass.

What was the August 17–18 bonus?
On August 17 and 18, customers who bought one Pokémon Happy Set were offered one McDonald’s-original Pokémon Frienda Pick, while supplies lasted. The company announced six designs for the giveaway. The offer was a separate weekend bonus alongside the toy promotion.
Was this the U.S. Pokémon Happy Meal promotion?
No. The August 2024 offer was McDonald’s Japan’s Pokémon Happy Set. McDonald’s USA later announced a different Pokémon Happy Meal beginning January 21, 2025, which included a Pokémon Trading Card Game booster pack, poster, and sticker sheet. Those U.S. items belong to the 2025 campaign, not Japan’s 2024 toy lineup. McDonald’s USA’s Pokémon Happy Meal page describes that separate offer.
