What happens to Robert in the Season 1 finale?
In “Maxine Throws a Party,” the Season 1 finale, Robert pieces together that the woman he knows as Norma is Agnes, her former boarding-school roommate. Agnes was diabetic and was found dead at the bottom of the stairs; Robert’s conversation with one of Norma’s former lovers gives him clues to her identity and the apparent theft of Norma’s life. The revelation has personal and financial stakes. Norma had proposed marriage to Robert, which would put him ahead of Maxine and Douglas in line for her fortune. But Robert is not motivated by the money: actor Ricky Martin described him as “very pure” and said he wanted to stand for justice rather than accept the arrangement for financial gain. At the Beach Ball, Robert confronts Norma during Maxine’s performance.
Meanwhile, Mary tries to shoot President Nixon. Linda redirects the gun, and Robert is hit. The episode ends with his life in danger, but it does not reveal whether he survives. Showrunner Abe Sylvia described the shot as a deliberate cliffhanger. (TheWrap)

Does Robert die in Palm Royale?
No. Season 1 leaves his fate uncertain, but Season 2 resolves the cliffhanger: Robert survives. The new season revisits the shooting and shows him near death, while Maxine is separated from him and tries to get back to him. His injury leads into a recovery story rather than a death.
