Ozzy Osbourne’s final concert was held at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. Seated on a black Gothic throne decorated with skull and bat-wing motifs, he performed a solo set before joining Black Sabbath’s original lineup for the band’s final performance.

Ozzy Osbourne’s final concert took place at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, on July 5, 2025. He began with a solo set, performing while seated on a black Gothic throne decorated with skull and bat-wing motifs. He then joined Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward for Black Sabbath’s final performance with its original lineup.

The concert was called Back to the Beginning. It was billed as Osbourne’s final live appearance, reunited the original Black Sabbath members for the first time in 20 years, and raised money for Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice. The event’s profits were announced as being shared equally among the three charities.

Why Ozzy performed from a bat-decorated throne

The throne was more than a practical stage chair. It rose from beneath the Villa Park stage as part of Osbourne’s entrance and was designed as a theatrical black, Gothic-style object, with skull imagery and bat-wing details. The visual suited the performer long known as the “Prince of Darkness.”

#1 Best Overall
AKLOT Saddle Drum Throne, Hydraulic Drum Throne, Heavy Duty Drum Seat, Height Adjustable Suede Drum Chair, Motorcycle Style Drum Stool for Adults Drummers Dark Blue
  • Suede Saddle Drum Throne: If you spend long hours drumming, you definitely care about seating comfort. This saddle drum throne features a soft velet surface paired with black PU leather sides. The contrasting color design is stylish and durable. Its ergonomic saddle shape fits your hips well and distributes body pressure evenly.
  • Heavy Duty Drum Throne: No more shaky drumming! This drum throne adopts an all-metal thickened steel tripod with zero fragile plastic parts. IT can bear 440 lbs. The upgraded double-rod support provides more balanced force distribution. It stays stable even during intense drumming movements. Sturdy, wear-resistant and never easy to deform, it delivers reliable support for long-term rehearsal and stage performance.
  • Hydraulic Drum Throne Dimensions: Whether you are a teen drummer or an adult guitarist, you can easily set the stool to your ideal height. The adjustment range from 17 to 24 inches helps you maintain a proper playing posture, avoiding uncomfortable hunching or awkward arm positions and reducing fatigue during long practice sessions.
  • Drum Chair Rubber Sleeves: Nothing ruins your performance like a sliding drum throne when you play hard. Equipped with rubber anti-slip pads with textured bottoms, our stool grips the floor firmly. It prevents the tripod from shifting during intense playing and protects your floor from scratches for worry-free practice and performances.
  • Suitable for Multiple People & Scenarios: Perfect for drummers, guitarists, teens and adult music lovers. Great for home practice, band rehearsals, school performances and stage shows. It also makes a thoughtful gift for your music-loving friends and family.

The bats also recalled one of the most famous stories in Osbourne’s career. During a January 1982 concert in Des Moines, Iowa, Osbourne bit the head off an object he believed was a rubber bat. He later learned that the bat was real. The throne’s imagery clearly connected with that part of his public mythology, although available reporting does not establish that it was built solely as a literal recreation of the 1982 incident.

It is therefore more accurate to describe the scene as Ozzy performing from a black Gothic throne decorated with skulls and bat-wing motifs than to call it a throne shaped like a giant bat.

Was the throne a mobility aid?

Osbourne’s health was an important part of the concert’s context. He had publicly discussed Parkinson’s disease, serious health problems, and difficulty walking. At Villa Park, he sang from the throne rather than standing and moving around the stage in the way he had during earlier decades.

However, the available reporting does not provide a complete medical or engineering explanation for the throne. It should not be presented as though Parkinson’s disease alone explains every part of its design. The object was both functional staging and a highly deliberate piece of Ozzy imagery.

Ozzy’s solo songs and the Black Sabbath reunion

The performance had two distinct parts. Osbourne first performed several solo songs from the throne. He was then joined by Black Sabbath’s original lineup:

Rank #2
On-Stage MDT4 Heavy Duty Drum Throne
  • Comfortable. Seat is cushioned with dense foam that absorbs pressure on your body and evenly distributes your weight to minimize fatigue for long-lasting playing comfort.
  • Ergonomic. Saddle-style seat contour leaves extra space in front of the throne, enabling a wider range of motion for your legs, making it easier to operate foot pedals.
  • Adjustable. You can adjust the height according to your playing preferences, ensuring your optimal combination of pedal control and stick reach on a wide range of drum kits.
  • Stable. Rugged base constructed from aluminum alloy and iron features a wide footprint and three braced legs with rubber feet for outstanding strength and weight support.
  • Portable. Seat is removable and the tripod base quickly folds down for ease of load in, setup, teardown, and load out while also enabling compact storage and efficient transportation.
  • Ozzy Osbourne — vocals
  • Tony Iommi — guitar
  • Geezer Butler — bass
  • Bill Ward — drums

The Sabbath portion included “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” “N.I.B.,” and “Paranoid,” with “Paranoid” reported as the closing song. Those song-level details come from fan-maintained setlist documentation, so they are best treated as a documented reconstruction rather than official production metadata.

The distinction between the solo and Sabbath portions matters. This was not simply an Ozzy Osbourne solo concert with guest appearances. It was also the final performance of Black Sabbath’s original four-member lineup, in the band’s home city of Birmingham.

What was Back to the Beginning?

Back to the Beginning was a large-scale farewell event at Villa Park, the football stadium in Birmingham. Alongside Osbourne and Black Sabbath, the bill featured major rock and metal acts including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon. Metallica’s participation was also confirmed through the band’s official tour information.

The choice of Birmingham was central to the event’s meaning. Osbourne was born in the city, and Black Sabbath emerged from Birmingham in the late 1960s. The concert was framed not only as a final bow but also as Osbourne’s way of giving back to the place where his story began.

Why the final concert became even more significant

Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, at age 76—17 days after the Villa Park concert. His family announced his death, and Warner Music Group confirmed the loss of the Black Sabbath founding vocalist.

Rank #3
AODSK Drum Throne, 16.3-20.7" Height, Thick Padded Seat, Double-Braced
  • [Height Adjustment]: Height adjustable from 16.14 to 20.47 inches, easily tailored to different sitting positions and playing demands with simple operation
  • [250 lbs Weight Capacity]: Reinforced alloy steel legs offer solid stability and long service life, holding up to 250 lbs for steady and safe seating
  • [Thick Comfortable Cushion]: High-density sponge padded cushion delivers great softness and support, not easy to deform after long-time use for optimal playing comfort
  • [Waterproof & Easy to Clean]: Premium synthetic leather surface is waterproof and stain-resistant. Simply wipe clean for daily maintenance, keeping the drum stool fresh all the time
  • [Wide Application]: Lightweight & sturdy design fits home practice, band rehearsal and stage performance, perfect for amateur and professional drummers

That timing changed how the performance was understood. On July 5, it was already being presented as Osbourne’s final concert. After his death, it became his final public bow as well: the last time he appeared before a live audience, the last time he sang with Black Sabbath’s original lineup, and one of the final public images of a career that spanned roughly seven decades.

The chronology is important:

Where is Ozzy Osbourne’s final-concert throne now?

As of the current research period in 2026, the throne is on display at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in the exhibition Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero. Birmingham Museums identifies it as the centerpiece connected with Osbourne’s final Birmingham concert.

The exhibition is scheduled to run through September 27, 2026. The museum says the throne was originally built for Osbourne’s 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction and was last seen onstage at Villa Park. Anyone planning a visit should check the museum’s current opening arrangements and exhibition status before traveling, since the end date and visitor information are time-sensitive.

How to watch the performance

Mercury Studios announced a worldwide livestream of Back to the Beginning, with the original broadcast available on demand for 48 hours after the concert. That initial viewing window should not be confused with an ongoing streaming release.

A feature-length concert film, Back to the Beginning: Ozzy’s Final Bow, has also been announced for theatrical release in 2026. The announced film is approximately 100 minutes long and is centered on Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell performance. As of the August 12, 2026 research cutoff, no reliable official source confirmed a current U.S. theatrical date, streaming service, retail release date, or final DVD/Blu-ray availability. Availability may also vary by country.

There is a separate documentary for viewers interested in Osbourne’s final years. Ozzy: No Escape from Now premiered on Paramount+ on October 7, 2025 and includes material related to the Villa Park performance. It is not the same title as the Back to the Beginning concert film, so listings for one should not be treated as confirmation that the other is available.

What to read, watch, or listen to next

For readers who want more context about Osbourne’s final years, Last Rites is his final memoir, published in hardcover on October 7, 2025. It is a life-and-legacy book rather than a recording of the Villa Park concert.

For archival viewing, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne is an earlier documentary available on DVD and Blu-ray. It predates Back to the Beginning and does not document the 2025 final concert.

Listeners revisiting Osbourne’s solo career can look for physical editions of albums such as Patient Number 9, Ordinary Man, Tribute, and Memoirs of a Madman on CD or vinyl. These provide career context, but they are separate from the Black Sabbath reunion set.

The central bat image has also appeared in licensed fan merchandise. An Ozzy Osbourne Classic Bat T-Shirt is associated with the bat imagery, but it is apparel—not the stage throne and not official evidence that the 2025 concert is available as a physical product.

The most accurate way to describe the moment

Ozzy Osbourne did not simply sit in a novelty chair for a final show. At Villa Park, a black Gothic throne rose beneath the stage and placed him inside a visual language he had spent decades building: skulls, bats, darkness, theatrical excess, and a strong connection to Birmingham. From that throne, he completed a solo set, reunited with Iommi, Butler, and Ward, and ended Black Sabbath’s original lineup’s live story with “Paranoid.”

Seventeen days later, the image became the closing scene of Osbourne’s public performing career.
